Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about why I create the kind of art I do. Abstracts have always been my safe space—a place where I can pour out raw emotions, let go of expectations, and just be. It’s freeing to not have to explain every stroke, every shape, or every color. It’s my way of saying, “This is me, imperfect and evolving.”
But here’s the thing—I’ve also been feeling this itch to grow, to stretch myself beyond the limits I sometimes place on my art. I paint these non-representational abstracts partly because I love the expressive nature of it, the way it feels to just let loose on the canvas. But another part of me knows it’s also because I’ve never had formal training or the skills to create the kind of “refined” art I sometimes admire.
And that’s where the tension comes in. I love what I do, but I also want to evolve. I want to learn, to experiment, to expand my skills so I can better bring my ideas to life—whether that means refining my abstracts or exploring something entirely new. This space I’m in, where I feel both inspired and stuck, isn’t always comfortable. But I think that’s where the growth happens, right?
For now, I’m trying to embrace the discomfort, the imperfections, and the process. Because at the heart of it all, I create for the love of it—for the freedom, the joy, and the connection it brings to myself and, hopefully, to others.
So here’s to the messy, the beautiful, and the in-between. Thank you for following along on this journey with me. 💛
