The mission of Chill Out & Proud Somerset is to facilitate events and spaces that foster belonging for LGBTQPIA+ community members in the Lake Cumberland region and greater Appalachia.

Mourning the loss of feminist icon Gloria Steinem. GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement, "Gloria Steinem was a trailblazing titan of civil rights whose vision for liberation bridged the movements for gender equality, bodily autonomy, and LGBTQ rights. She recognized that feminist progress is incomplete without full inclusion and stood as an ally to transgender people’s fight for equality. Gloria rejected rigid binaries, choosing instead to build bridges of empathy and coalition across all marginalized identities. Gloria’s life was a masterclass in coalition-building, courage, and unconditional empathy."

What an amazing way to expand knowledge about Kentucky's vast LGBTQIA+ history & contributions! Thank you JustFundKY for funding such wonderful work across our state! 🎉

Lexington Pride Center - Centro del Orgullo de Lexington received one of our 2026 grants to help spread LGBTQ+ history. In collaboration with Faulkner Morgan Archive they will create yard signs celebrating q***r history. These yard signs can be rented out to prides across the bluegrass to further expand our knowledge of this *amazing* community.

Beloved by q***r communities for decades—most memorably for his role as Frank-n-Furter, the sweet transvestite, from Tr*******al, Transylvania! in The Rocky Horror Picture Show—Tim Curry has been a light in the darkness of everybody's life.

The recipient of an Emmy Award, and nominated for Tony Awards, Olivier Awards, a Grammy, and more, Tim Curry had a prolific career that spanned Broadway, the West End, small-screen and big-screen roles, and albums that had us all “...do the rock.”

Rest in peace, Tim Curry.

Dolly Parton was not only the 'Queen of Country Music', but indeed the queen of inclusivity and philanthropy. Her support for LGBTQ people spans decades, from the 1990s by way of her track 'Family' where she expressed that regardless of religion or sexual orientation all should be welcome; to the powerful ballad "Travelin' Thru" which Parton penned for the film "TransAmerica" and earned her an Oscar nomination; to her early support of marriage equality in 2009, well before its legalization. Parton's warm spirit, kindheartedness and joie de vivre deeply resonated with the LGBTQ community, cementing her as a global q***r icon whose art always held space for outsiders, no matter the risk. Parton's entire career was built on love and respect for all, and her unwavering allyship is a legacy that will last forever.
