Decided it was time to mix it up a bit and try painting something new. These guys will be at the fall Driftless Area Art Festival. Come visit my booth along with over 80 other artists September 19th and 20th.

What a great surprise! Thank you Teresa and Gary for buying my painting of the Tiffany Railroad Bridge. A few years ago, I stopped and took pictures of the bridge and recently painted it. I am glad it has a good home!

I really enjoy painting birds. First I find the bird images, considering whether their color and size will compliment one another. Then I arrange them and rearrange them until I think their placement makes an interesting composition. After the birds are sketched, I add in a few branches to ground and connect them. Then comes painting the birds. They look pretty stark floating on the white watercolor paper. Branches are adding using colors found in each bird. Then the fun begins! I load my brush with water, smear and pull paint from the edges of birds, splatter and flick to create movement. Painting birds is my happy place! This watercolor is 11" x 14".

Today my painting The Meandering Miss sold. It was one of the paintings for sale at the VIVA GALLERY as I am their artist of the month. Thank you to the couple who purchased it. I hope that you enjoy it!

Thank you to everyone who braved the stormy weather last night to come to my guest artist reception at the Viva Art Gallery. It was fun to share what I love to do with you. I appreciate the warm welcome, and the work that gallery members have done to kick off my month with them. If you are in the area, stop in. It is a beautiful place with a wide variety of talented art.

There is a lot going on in this! I put off painting it for a few years, because I felt it was too busy for a good composition. Oh, well! I couldn't resist. I loved the little boats and Steve's shadow on the dock in the original photo I took that day.

This watercolor is created from two vacation photos. One of a harbor in Camden, Maine and another of a sailboat I saw on Nantucket Island, MA.
