IMPORTANT HEALTH ALERT - Neurologists have discovered that listening to live music regularly has incredibly positive effects on our brain and our general health. Listening to music stimulates distinct areas of the brain, increasing dopamine production, regulating mood, reducing anxiety, lowering blood pressure and pain levels, and helping with sleep disorders. All of those benefits are enhanced greatly when that music is performed live in front of you. Increased social interaction, lower stress hormones, and positive mental feelings that are higher than yoga and dog walking can help increase life expectancy by up to nine years.
Add the antioxidants found in red wine, the cardio from dancing, and the emotional lift from getting together with friends and the best thing you can do for your overall health might just be a night out at the Fat Cat. Come test this theory Saturday Night at 7pm when Miss Lavelle White's backing band "The L men" return with Austin's Blues Musician of the Year, Oscar Ornelas. This music will definitely get those neurons firing and your butt up and dancing. See you there....for your health!
It's just about time for the party to start in Smithville! Oscar and the L-men will be hitting the stage Saturday Night. Known internationally as the backing band for Miss Lavelle White, these guys play that old school Funk and Blues that gets you up and dancing. Oscar just returned from a major tour of Europe and the release of his latest album. This will be a great show so get a group of friends together and make it an event to remember.
Alyssa Hankey live now at the Fat Cat.
Free show happening right now with Alyssa Hankey. Come check her out. She's got an incredible voice.
Last night's wine class "olfactorium" was a great success with a lot of enthusiastic people expanding their palate and exploring the aromatic diversity of some delicious wine. If you missed out this time or just want to do it again, more classes are being scheduled as we speak.
Alyssa Hankey, traveling here from Philly, will be performing a free show Saturday Night and will be joined by Erica Michelle. To make sure you get a seat reserve tickets at the link below.

Roots Rock band Belldiver from Austin just started playing here at the Fat Cat. Get down here and join the party.
Belldiver is a unique band. They have a sound reminiscent of early R. E. M. , Wilco, and Son Volt, with a dash of Lucinda Williams and Steve Earle. They have six members that create a full rich sound complete with keyboards, sax, a lot of backing vocals. Lastly, they play mostly original songs instead of relying on cover songs. This is a super fun show with very talented musicians that really like to hang out together and interact with their fans. Don't miss the show tomorrow Sat. September 10th 7-9.

Still a few tickets left for Larry Wilson and Jeff Haney on Friday Night. This will be an incredible collaboration. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/388360295097
On Saturday we have one of my favorite bands as Belldiver returns. This 6 piece alt Country/ roots rock band, playing mostly original songs, harkens back to the early days of R.E.M., Wilco, and Son Volt. This is a band on the rise, and definitely worth checking out.
Larry Wilson and the Larrylanders host their monthly jam session Friday Night Blues at the Fat Cat Lounge and Cafe. Come enjoy.
We have something for every taste coming up in the next few weeks. This Saturday the incredible Soul Man Sam brings his full SMS band and his feisty brand of Soul, Blues, and Funk. Next Friday, Sept. 9th Larry Wilson returns for Friday Night Blues with special guest Smithville's Jeff Haney. On Saturday the 10th roots rock band Belldiver comes back to the Fat Cat for a night of original music in the vein of R.E.M., Wilco, and Son Volt. On the following Saturday we have two bands as Bluegrass trio Sugar Tree Band play a free show from 1-3 and Philadelphia native Allysa Hankey plays from 7-9. She's inspired by Dylan, Cash, Springsteen, and Tom Petty but sings like Melissa Etheridge.
Come experience this diverse array of talent for yourself and bring a group of friends to make it a party to remember.
Don't forget tonight is the Young Artists Series. Come support the next generation of Smithvilles musicians.
About a year ago. Soul Man Sam was playing at the Fat Cat, when his friend Hannibal came up on stage. What a magical collaboration. Come see Ssm this weekend and be apart of our next magical moment.
