Melody's has been closed for a few years. It was formerly Orchard House Booksellers and Coffeeshop and we all wish it was still in business. Melody is out west seeking her fame and fortune.

Good Morning Smithfield and beyond. Today I plan on closing down my computer. That means it is not likely I go on Facebook. If you have my phone and/or my personal cell than you know how to reach me. Let me take this last opportunity to say thank you. You and the community support that was shown to Melody's was phenomenal. I am not saying all of the community, but the exceptional people, many who have become dear friends know who you are. I will be at the shop through the end of July. I will be in the area after that for sometime. I hope I run into you at some point. I do still have a few big items to sell as I have posted here and on Craigslist. The small items I will donate to JCI Thrift Store. Once again thank you one and all, you gave me one of the best years of my life. The memories have made happy footprints on my heart. I only regret that on a financial level, the shop could not support itself. If the bank would have taken the emotional and spiritual fulfillment that I received, I'd stayed in business. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

This is the last day of the YARD SALE. Make me a deal. I have books even cheaper, Buy one for $ 1.00, get second book 1/2 price. I still have a bunch of books and other treasures. What is left over, I box up and donate. So come and buy it...tell your friends please. I need it ALL to go away! — feeling sad.

Thank you all for the supporting and heart-warming comments. Yes it is sad that the shop closed. However, to know that Johnston County residents are enhancing their lives and may be I played a small,,,,very small part in that warms my heart. I will miss you all. BUT it is not over yet. The huge Sale will be back on tomorrow. Not sure of the time though, look for the "Sale" sign on the door or call 919-936-1511 before you make a trip. Thursday are crazy for me because I go to Raleigh. Without a doubt Books will still be on sale along with other treasures that I am still finding Friday & Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.. Today ALL BOOKS are $ 1.00 or less. I have a rack outside with a few. I have a bunch inside. I sold my book shelves. All books must go...I have no where to put them. I do not want to box them up and sell them to a book store. I want Johnston County folks to enjoy them. This is now until at least 6 p.m. tonight. Tell your friends.

OK, It is not a yard sale. (There are mandatory permits for that) It is an OUT OF BUSINESS SALE on Friday and Saturday, July 12th & 13th from 8 am to 5 p.m. I have refrigerators, coffee syrups, coffee makers, folding chairs, antique table, chairs, awesome stereo equipment, stuffed animal. books galore, cases of cups, signs, white boards, baskets, loaves of gluten-free bread, beautiful bookshelves, projector screens, chess sets and so much more. Tell your friends, come find the bargains.

Next Friday & Saturday, July 12 & 13 There is a HUGE YARD SALE at what use to me Melody's. Everything must go. I have to vacate building by the end of July. Tell your friends and plan on coming. We have books, chairs, tables, gluten free loaves of bread, kitchen utensils, pans, freezers, refrigerators, white boards and so much more. Again Everything must go. Oh we even have Larry's Beans and everything you need to make the best coffee ever. Come one, come all to this HUGE YARD SALE. It will be held in the dining room of Melody's in Smithfield.

***Oreo Explosion Cupcakes*** I just put out a fresh batch. Saturday is the last day we will be open If you have not tried one of Melody's treats, now is your chance. Once the Oreo Explosion Cupcakes are sold out, Melody's will not have them ever again.

On another note, while I have not made the new signs yet...All books & gift items INSIDE the dining room is 70% OFF. If you have a love of books, or want to add to your collection...now is the time. Amazing how many people buy Christmas presents in July. The price will not go any lower than this. ???See you soon????

Good Afternoon, right now I have the young people in. They have their bicycles parked out front. Of coarse we have others here too. Selling a lot of ice-cream, frappes, 10 cent candy necklaces and Oreo Explosion Cupcakes.They are looking at the stuffed animals and books that are 50 % off. They are sad we are closing. A couple of little girls said they would "give me all their money and come here everyday" if I would stay open. Another said this was her and her friends popular hangout on Tuesday's Open Mic Nite. Now that school is out they were planning to start coming again. The smell of Chewy Chocolate Brownies fills the air. I just pulled them out of the oven. With all these positive comments, it is breaking my heart that this place is closing. What other "safe" place can young people come? Oh well, there is still hope. I made the decision to buy the place four days due to it closing. It was announced at Open Mic that the establishment would stay open. Everyone cheered! How I wish I could announce that tonight. Everyone says they would love to own a coffeehouse but they do not have the money to do so. I invite you all to Open Mic., my announcement will be that I am lowering in the books to 70% off. You heard right 70% off. Wow, we still have a good selection too, hope to see you.

Good Morning all. Tristany just came in for one last time. I was blessed to have her work here and to know her. She is an awesome Barista and has a great soul. I will so miss her as I will miss the whole coffeehouse experience. Wow last night when Ragged Company was playing their final song, I looked around the dining room. It was as if I was looking at everything with new eyes. This is a gathering place for all ages, all personalities coming together and enjoying themselves. Yes I cried. This place brings joy to many and it will be missed. I have been blessed to serve and get to know such wonderful people. We are still open another week.Our last day is next Saturday June 29th. We will stay open late to support the SRM event taking place on 3rd Street. Come in and enjoy our coffee and other goodies while you can.

Good Morning! We are not usually a CLEARANCE STORE, however I borrowed my neighbor's price gun. We have items marked as low as 50 cents, then you get an additional 50% off. ...WOW! Most books and all gift items are 50% off the lowest price. I am just say, please come and get these bargains. While you are here have a cup of the best coffee or ice cream in town. I am continuing to bake as long as I have the ingredients. So yes, I did make a fresh batch our our famous Carrot Cake Cupcake, etc. Soon you won't be able to get them any more, so get them while you can! I sure will miss you all once I am gone.

Good Morning! The consistent question I hear is "Why are you closing?" So here it is....I need a stable income, meaning each month I know how much money is coming in. Income fluctuates to an extreme. I am uncomfortable with that because it is my only source of income for my family. The business is for sell. If there is someone who is comfortable with ups & downs, this is a turn key operation with huge community support, We are however still the best kept secret in Smithfield. My advertising has been mainly word of mouth, that is not a big enough draw. Now you know. Have a great day and if you know anyone who wants supplemental income after an initial investment, send them to me. :-)

Happy Friday! First things first, we survived the wind storm. The only casualty was one patio umbrella. I will not replace it. The entry way table that had cards & ads from others was gritted over and all of the stuff was removed. This morning I baked muffins. This afternoon, I plan to bake more of everything. The integrity of Melody's being the gathering place to get wonderful bake treats, coffee, ice-cream, etc will be withheld until the very end. I am told that many prayers are being said that we get a new owner to carry on the business, so far that miracle has not happened. I really do appreciate all the heart warming comments received. Now the news on books, while I do not have the signs up yet, selected books and gift items are being REDUCED TO 50% off. Yep, it is part of clearing out and making my customers happy all at the same time. Obviously, the best selection of books are now. So what are you waiting for, come in and SAVE, SAVE, SAVE. Good Morning, made fresh brownies and Chocolate Chip Cookies the size of hub caps this morning just for you. Our Air0condition works great, so if you want to get out of the heat, come in, We have ice-cold frappes, smoothies, milkshakes and fountain drink, plus more. This morning a customer ordered Coca-Cola with Banana Sq**rt. Sounds odd, but I made me one. It is really good, thanks to that customer I now have a new drink. Another customer came in and bought a Red-eye, but more importantly she shared a reading. The reading say I am enough. That I do not always have to be doing, I can relax and take it easy, "I am enough". I love it, thank you Sarah. Have a great day and hope see you soon.

Good Morning Smithfield. Jerry just brought me beautiful gladiolas from his yard. These add to the wonderful Asiatic Lilly that he brought earlier. Between the beauty that he brings and his charming personality the coffeehouse is glowing. In addition, we have the aroma of fresh brewed Larry's Pure Guatemala house coffee and fresh out of the oven muffins. You are invited ti come and enjoy the atmosphere. Or if you are in a hurry and on your way to work, we can make your order to go. The kids are out of school now, we have been serving them juices, smoothies and home-made cookies. We have something for all ages.

A lovely lady that works next store at Pizazz just came in and splurged. It is her Birthday....Happy Birthday. I hope she enjoys her Red Velvet Cupcake, Pecan Cinnamon mini-pie, Apple Izze and Dark Chocolate Frappe with whip cream. What a nice birthday gift to herself. Surprised a co-worker/friend did not purchase a Melody's Gift Certificate for her. Or maybe they did. Whatever your celebration, come and splurge at Melody's. For you customers that want to know when we have a fresh batch of Carrot Cup Cakes, I just baked and frosted some this morning. We now offer them with Pecans or without at your suggestion. We love our customers and try to cater their needs whenever possible. What can we do for you???

Well apparently most people went to the beach. The bad news is Smithfield is like a ghost town today. The good news is I am getting a lot of baking done. OK we have fresh out of the oven baked HUGE Chocolate Chip Cookies, Brownies,and the Red Velvet Cupcakes are cooling, soon as I make the Frosting they will be added to our wonderful selection of home-made baked goods. Good Morning, Yes we are open today our normal hours 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Started out as a hot cocoa morning but quickly turning into a Smoothie day. I baked blueberry and banana nut muffins this morning. We have buy-one-get-one-free walnut Brownies and gluten-free assorted ABC Cookies. Plus of course we have books and gifts on sale. Good Morning Smithfield, the shop opened 10 minutes late. Sorry Chris you could not get a cup of "the best coffee in town" before going to your event. However, I am here now serving great coffee and about to ice our famous carrot cake cup cakes that I just baked. At 11 a.m. we have Greg Elder, author of the book "Gamblers Fight Back". He will be autographing books and meeting with you and telling you all about the book and the inspiration for writing it. Wow, sounds a like a great thing to do today. So I invite you to come to Melody's, have a drink and a treat and meet Greg Elder. It is a beautiful day and the event is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Looking forward to seeing you.

It's Friday and soon a start to a long holiday weekend. Melody's will be opened regular hours. Tonight we have an excellent performer and close friend of mine, Rob Hall. He plays a great variety of music and I hear his family may be here too. The entire family is musically gifted. In addition, I started re-arranging our book section. I started a “Sale” table. Books and gift items I think are priced to high was put on sale. I am borrowing a price gun, so I am having a blast lowering prices. I may be getting carried away reducing prices. So come in and keep me company before “I give away the farm.” That is a strange expression. Hope to see you soon.

New in the Bakery case, a delicious treat with an interesting background!
Take a quick trip to Germany with one of our delicious Bienenstich!!! 'Bienenstich' is German, and means bee sting. It's a sweet honey almond cake with a vanilla cream center, and is topped with glazed almonds and honey! It's Sweet, but not heavy. Hurry in and get one! There's no telling how long they'll last! They go really well with Amaretto Lattes and Almond mochas! Trust me; I'm a Barista. ;)

Tonight is Tuesday and we have Open Mic Nite from 6:30 - 8:30. Everyone has fun watching, participating or both.

This Friday Night 7:30 - 9:30 Pete Keene and his band will be playing their bluegrass, country and gospel music. It is always a treat to have these guys in.

On Saturday December 22 at 3 p.m. we have Christmas Carolers and a Soloist coming here. If I took notes right they are from Kinder Voice of Clayton and Sharon Baptist Church Music Christian Academy.

Monday December 24th and the 31st The Johnston County Scrabble Club is NOT meeting here. However, we are still open until 8 p.m. as always. It's a perfect time for you to come in and unwind in a nice environment. We are told our dining room has a "nice feel" to it.

We will be closed Christmas Day. We are wishing you and your family Merry Christmas and a blessed day.

Monday December 31st, New Years Eve we will be opened our regular hours of 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Tuesday January 1st, New Years Day we WILL be opened our normal hours of 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Yes we will have Open Mic Nite as usual. So whether you are nursing a hangover or just starting out 2013 with high hopes, come to Melody's.

We have books, stocking stuffers, bottles of coffee syrups and bags of coffee for you giving pleasure.
