Dear SLAWDC Community,
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Upul Abeywarna.
Upul was not only a valued member of our community but also a dedicated leader who served on the SLAWDC Board for many years, including in the capacity of President-Elect. His commitment, generosity, and quiet strength touched countless lives. He gave so much of himself to support our organization and uplift those around him, always leading with kindness, humility, and a genuine spirit of service.
Upul’s presence brought people together. Whether through his contributions to SLAWDC or his personal connections, he left a lasting impact that will not be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
During this difficult time, our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his beloved wife, Dilini; his children, Ashen and Roshali; and his entire family. We hope they find comfort in the love and support that surrounds them and in the beautiful legacy Upul leaves behind.
The memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2026, with viewing from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by pansakula at 5:00 PM, at Robert A. Pumphrey Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD 20814. Family and friends are invited to attend, share memories, and honor Upul’s life.
If you are sending flowers, please arrange for delivery to the funeral home before noon on Sunday, April 26.
As a community, we mourn this loss together and honor a life that gave so much to others. May we continue to carry forward his spirit of compassion and service.
