Cheryl Nancy Ann Gordon

Cheryl Nancy Ann Gordon "Nature is my greatest teacher," says Cheryl Nancy Ann Gordon, an impressionist painter whose work captures the wild heart of Montana.

Living in Montana (now the Ruby Valley) for nearly five decades has deeply informed Cheryl's palette, which she uses to Following my dream to share the beauty I see all around me is my guiding force behind my painting. I have always loved to create and dreamed of being an “artist” when I retired. Oil paints became my passion. In 2002 my husband bought me some paints and I played with them on and o

ff for 10 years. In 2012, I decided to pursue my joy in painting, and set a goal to paint 56 pieces that year, same as my age. Work got in my way and well, I didn’t reach that goal, but it was the kick starter I needed. In 2015, I painted 60 paintings that year, and now in 2016 I superseded my goal with 110 paintings. I am getting closer to my goal of becoming a full-time painter, work still gets in my way, but I keep painting. My art has been described as impressionistic, folk art expressionism. To me, the paintings are just a reflection of my walk through this beautiful world.

I think that all the art experts out there are intimidating artists. Perhaps more than helping. When I first started painting in a serious regular way. I refused to look at other people's art or watch "training" videos for a year. Because I wanted my own inner self to find a way to express beauty. Then with the advancement of technology and the ease of creating videos I started to watch them. I learned techniques I could use to speed up my own learning. I realized the more I watched.... the less I would paint. Also they made me feel like nothing I painted was good enough. Thats why I say the "experts" can be intimidating. My best advice, not that anyone really cares, so maybe its just advice I need to remind myself again...... just do your art! Just do it. Be your own teacher and let it happen. So yeah maybe this helps someone else. I needed to remember how it was way more fun painting when I really didn't know how. Odd as that seems.... thats the way it is. So I am going to just forget about everything I have learned and let my intuitive self be the painter.

Overcoming Creative Obstacles. Beginning a painting can be the most arduous part of the process. The initial stage of any project can be intimidating, but experienced artists know that persistence is key to transcending the mundane and achieving something extraordinary.

4th session
"Springtime in the Highlands is a magnificent contradiction. One moment you are standing in a field of delicate, bright wildflowers, and the next, your eyes are drawn up to the massive, snow-dusted granite peaks under an ever-changing sky." Session 4 is the Progression and I finished.
