2003 Tour de Lincoln Bike Sculpture Collection

2003 Tour de Lincoln Bike Sculpture Collection A total of 71 Bikes were created by local artists. Ultimately, there were 71 bicycles in the program that were put on display during 2003.

"Tour De Lincoln" was city a wide public art display of Artistic Bicycles in the summer of 2003, sponsored by the Lincoln Art Council, designed to celebrate Lincoln's unique trail systems. While other cities public art projects featured animals: cows, bears, horses, etc or people like Omaha's J.Doe project... Lincoln had bicycles. at the end of the run, they were put up for auction to the public a

nd brought the Lincoln Arts council about $425,000 in revenues. Many of the sculptures remain in the public eye... some are in private hands, but are still publicly displayed... a few have been taken out of town... some are being held privately, and a few have gone missing.
..most are loved and well cared for, but are starting to show their age. A few really need help. This group is to help to locate them and help encourage people to keep them public, and to keep them well maintained - they are a part of our history, and deserve a little love and care.

Southeast corner of the parking lot, across the street from Shelter #8.

As noted in the location, this sculpture is actually located just outside Kansas City, and has been dedicated to the memory of Rita Hahn. It is a bit of a drive, but if you are already in the Kansas City area, it is a nice place to grab a picnic or stretch your legs for a walk.

Original Location: Lincoln Racquet Club - 5300 Old Cheney Road
