Rebekah Snow Watercolor Artist Modern and expressive florals. I have been painting with watercolor for more than twenty years, always coming back to my love flowers and vibrant colors.

I feel the joy of sunshine and the outdoors when I look at gorgeous blooms. I hope you do too! I'm a floral watercolor artist living in California. I'm currently working towards completing my associates degree in Studio Arts at the community college.
I've never had formal art training, only high school and online courses I've taken on my own. I don't think I've drawn with graphite or charcoal in perhaps decades, beside sketching pieces of course. I'm learning so much and actually enjoying my courses in 2D art and basic drawing.
This particular piece was a study in texture, requiring completing a collage with three textures and then drawing those with graphite. I'm not done yet, but so far stretching some art muscles.
The lace is certainly a challenge so we'll see how it works out!

It's been a very snowy, wintery week in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Managed to dig my car out from a feet few of snow thanks to wonderful neighbors. We got to the valley and desert and enjoy sunshine and dirt.

I photographed these beautiful Matilija poppies in Santa Barbara, California. These lovely, ruffled petals had so much texture to capture with watercolor and delicate brushstrokes.
I added shades of blue and violet to the petals to give an almost holographic feel that reflected the abstract background that shows the nature of the watercolor medium.
White paint filling the petals offer a contrast to the vibrant and bold colors of the background, highlighting the varied shades in the flower.

ColorFill: Red Roses

In my ColorFill series, I imagine paint dripping into flowers and filling each petal with bold color. Some color falls onto the flowers below. Some petals are left empty, only an outline yet to be filled. There, the paint is dripping from above and splashing into one largest petals on these gorgeous, velvety roses.
I want to explore how nature gets all of its beauty, imagining how God paints these gorgeous blooms.

Bendy Stems connects my love of flowers with my hypermobile Ehlers Danlos, a connective tissue disease that leads to over-flexible joints (and sooo many other aspects I deal with in my daily life).
I wanted to visualize that with these gorgeous, bright pink peonies...the stems are stretchy, bent, and tearing away from the bloom, yet there is joyful color and light. Many of us experience subluxation and dislocation, a pulling apart of the joints, and subsequent tears. Unfortunately for some that is a daily, painful occurence.
It is very important to me to raise awareness about EDS, and it's thirteen types, for those who are suffering as well as anyone in the medical community who is willing to help others. It took me decades of doctors visits and surgeries and medications and physical therapy to have a rheumatologist believe me.
I plan to add 1-2 pieces to this series, specifically a gorgeous set of yellow roses, for May's awareness month.

I photographed a pink tulip from my garden when it was freshly cut but found that as it dried there was so much more texture and an array of colors that I wanted to capture those details in watercolor. The curvature of the petals were twisted and felt so unlike a tulip in full bloom.
I wanted to really study and capture the form of decay.
I have a few other dried tulips and roses I've photographed and plan to include this series that explores decay, life and death, bloom and withering in 2026.

I'm still so thrilled and honored to have won First Place and BEST IN SHOW!
This painting, ColorFIll:Pink Peonies represents A LOT for me over the last two years.
Art and painting have really helped me to stay focused on the positive, colorful, and doing what I can when I can.
I really hope you enjoy my work! And I hope that I can spread the joy of painting as I create future tutorials.
