The Way-Off Broadway Players of the Washington Township High School Theatre Department proudly present ALICE BY HEART, a moving and imaginative musical about love, loss, growing up, and the extraordinary power of storytelling. Performances will take place November 19–21, 2026, in the 11/12 Playhouse at Washington Township High School.

Tickets: $15, available at https://wthsnj.booktix.com or at the door before each performance, subject to availability.

Synopsis: As the London Blitz rages overhead, Alice Spencer and her ailing friend Alfred take shelter in an underground tube station. Seeking refuge from the harsh realities of war, Alice invites those around her into the whimsical world of Wonderland, where imagination becomes a means of escape, connection, and hope. As fantasy and reality intertwine, Alice must confront the challenges of growing up and discover what it truly means to let go.

At its heart, ALICE BY HEART reminds us that while we cannot always control the stories life writes for us, we can choose how we carry them forward. Through its hauntingly beautiful score, inventive staging, and powerful ensemble storytelling, the musical celebrates the resilience of the human spirit.

Content Advisory: ALICE BY HEART explores mature themes, including war, illness, death, and grief, and contains some mature language and intense theatrical effects. Parental discretion is advised for younger audiences.

For the second year, the Washington Township High School Theatre Department was thrilled to host the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival’s Linny Fowler WillPower Tour for an incredible day of performance, exploration, and theatre education!

Our students began the day experiencing PSF’s touring production of JULIUS CAESAR, followed by a talkback with members of the company that gave students a behind-the-scenes look at the production, Shakespeare’s work, and the lives of professional theatre artists.

In the afternoon, students rotated through hands-on workshops led by members of the company:

⚔️ “Et Tu, Brute?” Exploring the fundamentals of stage combat and learning how actors make fights look real while keeping one another safe.

🎭 “A Lean and Hungry Look” Getting Shakespeare’s characters off the page and into the body through gesture, movement, and physical storytelling.

🗣️ “Lend Me Your Ears” Digging into Shakespeare’s language and rhetoric to better understand, connect with, and communicate the text.

⭐ “Not in the Stars but in Ourselves” Approaching Shakespeare like an actor through objectives, obstacles, character choices, and playful exploration of the text.

We are incredibly grateful to the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival and the talented WillPower Tour company for returning to WTHS and giving our students the opportunity not simply to watch Shakespeare, but to speak it, move it, fight it, analyze it, and bring it to life.

We deeply value our growing partnership with the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival and appreciate their willingness to join us once again this year. Providing our students with access to professional artists and meaningful, hands-on theatrical experiences makes an incredible impact, and we look forward to continuing this partnership for many years to come!

“The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves.” 🎭
