JIMMY JOHN'S DRIVE THRU // Seward, NE // 2022

The astronaut mural catches your eye and draws you into the Jimmy John's drive thru. The overall concept of this piece is exploration and adventure, with some fun brand elements. and hidden symbols representing the Seward Community. The astronaut's mission is to find and retrieve the Super Seal. In the shield of the helmet there are reflections of fireworks, which is a subtle nod to the fourth of July City. The patches on the sholder include the store number and the mascots of Seward Public School and Concordia University. The badge on the chest is the Jimmy John's logo.

During that semester, I will be traveling across the country on a mural tour as part of my sabbatical from Concordia University Nebraska. I’m partnering with schools, churches, and organizations to create collaborative murals that celebrate each community’s identity and vision.

A huge thank you to Eva Coppinger for documenting a small part of the painting of this mural. As I recall, this was after the fall semester had begun, so after class, I headed to the studio to pick up paint, and went back to the wall.

THE ALPS BARK PARK / Seward, NE / 2021

This giant wall was my first major exterior public mural. Before this, the majority of my mural work had been interior and mostly residential. This piece also was the first mural that was mostly painted with spray paint. That was, of course, before I discovered professional grade spray paints.

The overall experience was positive, though after completing the ten foot letters, I was informed that we would have to paint over them. A City ordinance limits the size of signage for a business, so needless to say we were in violation. It presented an opportunity for more dogs, more color and more fun!

This mural introduced Seward to the BOGZILLA aesthetic, and introduced me to Scott, a good friend, who trusted my vision for his wall!

BOGZILLA spent the day in a boom lift spraypainting this silo for ZASKA! Beer Co. The design pays homage to one of their beer labels. Even with a short rain delay, the project was completed in one day. The biggest challenge with documenting the painting for this video was that being up on the lift limited camera angles and coverage. The batteries also died before the project was complete, so the finished shots might seem a bit abrupt . . .
