From wide-open mountain passes and rural quiet to the sweet sounds of... civilization! ☕️

​After nearly a month exploring more remote stretches, arriving in Kearney, Nebraska yesterday felt surprisingly invigorating. Suddenly having multiple restaurant choices instead of a single local drive-in—and gasp, two Starbucks!—was a real treat. It turns out I’m not quite a hard-core city person, but I definitely appreciate a few comfort amenities. Put me down as a suburban girl at heart, as long as good conveniences are within 30 minutes!

​Today, our journey brought us into Columbia, Missouri. The lush green terrain here is such a striking change of pace from the rugged beauty of Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado, and it is finally feeling warmer.

LITTLE BIGHORN BATTLEFIELD. Standing on the grounds of the Little Bighorn Battlefield yesterday was a deeply sobering experience. 💔 It’s a place heavy with history—a history rooted primarily in greed and broken promises.

​Walking the trail, you see the landscape dotted with white markers for the fallen U.S. soldiers, and only a few red markers for the Native warriors who lost their lives. The informational stops do an incredible job walking you through the stories of Custer, Reno, and the battle itself, leaving you with very mixed emotions.

​Amidst the sorrow, my absolute favorite spot was the sacred Indian tree. Tied with vibrant colors of cloth, it stands wonderfully unconstrained compared to the other monuments, holding a deep, peaceful presence.

​And if you ever visit, make sure to stop by the trading post just outside! Not only is it packed with souvenirs, but they serve up the best Indian Tacos around. Pro tip: order their specialty fry bread with a little honey for dessert—it's the ultimate two-for-one meal and treat. They even have cute teepees, a fort, and a wagon set up for photos! 🌮📸

Canyons, Waterfalls, and the Shores of Yellowstone Lake! 🌲💦

​After experiencing the thermal magic of the west, we looped around to take in a completely different side of Yellowstone. We stopped by Tower Fall and made our way over to Artist Point—and oh, the views! The contrasting red rock walls paired with the rushing waterfall are straight out of a storybook. I’m already planning the acrylic painting that’s going to come out of this inspiration! 🎨✨

​From there, we journeyed toward the east side, taking in its unique character, before winding our way down to the massive expanse of Yellowstone Lake and stopping by Fishing Bridge. Every mile of this loop offers a brand-new masterpiece. Have a favorite spot in the park? Let me know below!
