Our wonderful friends at Venice Theatre never say quit! After catastrophic damage from hurricane Ian, they have been steadfast in their commitment to bring great entertainment to their community.

Kicking off their concert series on December 19 is the one and only Sharon Owens, with her Barbra Streisand tribute - to be held at the Venice Community Center.

There’s NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS, and there’s no more talented group of entertainers touring the Florida theater circuit than the Sharpe Family Singers. This troupe exceeds the parameters of variety entertainment to the peak of show business perfection.
THE SHARPE FAMILY SINGERS, whose nearly 2-hour show at the Wycliffe Golf and Country Club, January 28th, brought the audience to its feet, more than once, (not an easy fete for those on SS), for a standing ovation.

The professional production of staging and dramatics, is owed to Ron and Barbra-Russell Sharpe, having had their star acclaim from the years as the lead performers in the original Broadway production of Les Misérables, playing the romantic roles of Marius and Cosette. After being married onstage over 1000 times, they decided to get married and start a family for real!

The introduction of their four remarkably talented children to the audience with song and dance was met with cheers and applause. Twenty-three-year-old daughter, Samantha, who drew recognition from her performance on AMERICAN IDOL, inherited the operatic mastery of both her parents. She’s a seasoned performer having been on tour since a teen-ager. Samantha, who has stage presence, and stunning looks, could also belt out a song flawlessly, as we heard a rendition of Suddenly Seymour, from Little Shop of Horrors.

Son, Logan, the 20-year-old, 6’3” heartthrob, gave an outstanding vocal performance from Dear Evan Hanson with backup vocals from the ensemble.

The youngest of the family, identical 13-year-old charismatic twins, Aidan Connor, brought merriment on each visit to the stage. There’s an old vaudeville adage, “never follow a dog or a kid act.” Singing a rendition of Gary, Indiana from The Music Man, they were soon joined by daddy Ron, with audience adulation.

Barbra, the woman who cares for the lot, is strikingly beautiful, with a voice that’s a heart-stopper. Hubby Ron, a gifted showman, whose resume includes, producer, director, and logistics coordinator, is as unbounded in his job descriptions as in his range of voice. These remarkable talents do not miss a beat, as they enrapture the audience recreating their brilliant Broadway performance from, Les Misérables, “One Day More.”

The ensemble dazzlingly performs familiar Broadway songs, while two-stepping through a choreography of routines.

After a brief intermission what scurried onto stage brought a roar of laughter and applause, as each performer appeared in caricature costume of a by-gone popular entertainer. Hilarious of all, was Sonny Bono (Ron), and Cher (Barbra), who captured Cher’s essence to perfection. With surprising fervor, this member of the audience was thrust into show business as Sonny regaled me with whirls and song.

Complementing the ensemble were two enormously talented men, whose theatrics and voices were a bonus to this already superb production. Andre Williams, soon to star in Disney World’s production of The Lion King, burst into, “I just Can’t Wait to Be King.” Jim Petro, likely on his way to Broadway, was a showstopper with Phantom’s, Music Of The Night.

What the audience experienced was not only the performances of a superbly talented family - but one that is grounded in family values. A mother, and a father, and a daughter and three sons, who emanate love and happiness and friendship and devotion. Bravo, to The Sharpe Family Singers.
