🌊 We're bringing the power of sapphic love to Seattle.

Soprano Ibidunni Ojikutu talks about the joy and beauty of bringing Sappho's ancient poetry to life through the music of Undine Smith Moore, one of America's most important and underrecognized composers, at She Carries the Fire on June 27th at ArtLove Salon.

Memorial Day means different things to different people. At Rising Waters Collective we're acknowledging for the complexity of it by honoring those who volunteered, and those who had no choice, who gave their bodies and their lives in the name of freedoms that were real for some and actively denied to others.

We also believe the best way to honor sacrifice is to keep building the world those freedoms were supposed to make possible. We do that through art that talks Durant shy away from exploring societal issues, celebrating voices that refuse to be quiet, and sharing stories that belong to everyone.

🌊Which brings us to Songs of Resilience.

Last week, composer Sheila Silver sat down with our team to work through Songs of Resilience, her new song cycle and the world premiere at the heart of this August's Currents Festival. Watch her talk about what inspired this work and why she wrote it now, in this moment, and in this political climate.

Rising Waters Collective is a year and a half old. We've already produced our first season, are getting ready to launch our first summer Currents Festival, and have built something from scratch that this region didn't have before: chamber opera that is intimate, site-specific, community-rooted, and contemporary.

In August, we'll present the world premiere of Sheila Silver's Songs of Resilience, the North American premiere of disPLACE, and our inaugural Rising Artists Showcase - six emerging PNW performers on a professional stage, mentored, and on their way to careers.
