Sep 15! "The singer known only as anaiis—stylized in lowercase, a tribute to academic, author and activist bell hooks—is of French, Senegalese and Italian heritage. Born in Toulouse, France, she spent her childhood and adolescence moving between Dublin, Dakar and Oakland, before studying at New York University and ultimately putting down roots in London, where she is currently based.
In a TEDx talk she did in 2020, anaiis spoke of feeling displaced growing up, both experiencing racism as a black girl in Ireland and the United States, and then being labeled “not black enough” in Senegal. She has said that there's always “a sense of searching” in her music, a “constant movement.”
Her early releases reflect that search. She released her first EP in 2018, Before Zero, and her first album, Darkness at Play, in 2019. Listening to both well-received releases, there are phrases and song titles that reflect notions of feeling displaced, like one titled “Never Been Home.”

The stunning Doe Bay Resort on Orcas Island sets the scene for Imagine Music & Arts Festival, with beach days, spa time, paddleboarding, café visits, and a yoga studio alongside live music, dancing, and creative workshops. So many ways to meet new friends, integrate your summer adventures, and restore your mind & body for the next season.

Thu, Sep 10 - Sun, Sep 13, 2026, this idyllic nature spot offers room to slow down, restore, and reconnect. Take a small nearby hike with a short trip to Mt. Constitution, swim in the clear mineral water of Mountain Lake, or extend the weekend with post-festival camping at Moran State Park. We recommend Thursday to Tuesday if you can.

Getting there is actually fairly easy: don't let the ferry reservation system scare you away! Imagine organizers say everyone makes it onto the ferry, and those packing light can take the foot ferry directly to Doe Bay from Anacortes, with easy parking beside the boat launch and drop off right at Doe Bay on the beach, a short walk up to the camping or cabins.

Be sure to visit the Wecelium / Abbey Arts wellness and connection booth to meet sound and body practitioners, rest in the lounge, talk by the fire with new friends, or sit down and make some art while you integrate. (Between main stage and beach/Imagine Dome, by the Artist House)

Festival-goers can also stop by to receive a discount ticket code to the YAIMA + Nessi Gomes show on Sep 26 in Seattle, featuring a projection-mapping concert produced by Imagine with Abbey Arts at St Mark's Cathedral.

Imagine Festival is Sponsored in part by Abbey Arts & Wecelium Network. Invite a friend and help spread the word about this unusual weekend experience. All are welcome!

(got a moment before 11am Thursday?) Did you know $10 can turn into $60 helping your next favorite band play a show at the Abbey or Homestead? Or help the Open Arts Mic (Free) program support on the rise singer songwriters, poets, storytellers, comedians and dancers practice their craft with a supportive community twice a month here? What else... $30 could become up to $180 and that helps pay an artist to open a show and reach new fans, share their songs with a new audience and meet a touring band.

We are raising money on Artizen to give young artists in Seattle their first real stage: paid gigs, mentorship, and a room full of people who came to hear them. Every dollar you contribute unlocks matching funds, so your $20 goes further than $20. The current drive closes Thursday at 11 AM Pacific, and there is prize money on the line for the projects that climb the board tonight.

Grab an "artifact" here and help us launch the next generation of Seattle music: Voices Rising on Artizen

Thank you for being part of this.

(Note: Artizen funding is not tax deductible, if you'd like to make a larger contribution feel free to use our website and the Paypal foundation allows for zero fee donations - www.fremontabbey.org/donate )

Want to slow down and breath with the Salish Sea? Find a full system reset and restore with an escape to Orcas Island this September 10-14 for Imagine Music & Arts Festival. Together we create a space to slow down, listen inward, and reconnect through sound, dance, community, food, elixirs, salish sea dips, and more.

At Doe Bay Resort & Retreat on Orcas Island, many Abbey Arts favorites perform such as Alexa Sunshine Rose, Chihsuan, Khem Reyall, Shelby Natasha, LŪKA, Finn & Heyona, Sarah Conner, and Jila Ji offer distinct pathways through voice, song, strings, acoustic music, meditation-adjacent practices, and sound-therapy-inspired experiences.

The result is a varied, restorative gathering with room for music, reflection, curiosity, and connection. Come as you are and find the experience that speaks to you. Solo, group, family, all are welcome.

Sponsored in part by Abbey Arts & Wecelium Network. Look for our booth between the main stage and spa/beach, a place to rest and integrate and learn about various sound bath offerings and concerts.
