Meet the Acts: Formerly Known As

Day 15 of — you give them a genre. You give them a title. They give you a movie.

FORMERLY KNOWN AS are an independent improv group from Seattle who formed in 2023 and have been focused ever since on narrative, genre-based, story-first performance. Their most recent self-produced show was ZOINKIES! An Improvised Mystery — inspired by Scooby-Doo — which is exactly the kind of creative premise we love to see.

The five members each bring something distinct to the group. There is a Drama Major currently at the University of Washington. There is a cast member from CSz Seattle and ensemble member at Jet City Improv. There is a dual US/New Zealand citizen who was literally an orc in Lord of the Rings. And there is a Michigan native who always has a plan, even when the plan is unclear. Together they form one cohesive, whimsical, and deeply committed creative team.

They blend comedy and reality as father-son duo Denny and Carter take your suggestions on the generational divide between a 20th-century dad and his 21st-century son, and build real-life stories that anyone born to human parents can relate to. Performing together since 2013 when Carter was 10, TNGG has taken their act to improv festivals from Alaska to San Francisco to Utah, and is psyched to join FKA at the Rendezvous.

⚡️What's happening here, you may ask? These are from FKA Improv's set at the Bellingham Improv Festival at The Upfront Theatre last November, where we first met Jesse L Markus & Michael Haycock, and saw them perform as Murder Fairy & Arson Leprechaun. 🧚 🔥

In honor of that meeting, here are some pics from that festival show, which concluded with us all being talking, irradiated, post-blast raccoons! 🦝

They've performed at numerous festivals and theaters with their unique 'Toot-n-Ding Shlong' style of improv! With over 3 decades of combined improv experience, they live to perform with/for as many different people as possible!
