Wedgwood Drama Studio Theater for Young People If you hand a young person an instrument they’ve never played before, you don’t expect them to know how to play it instantly.

Wedgwood Drama Studio (WDS) provides quality Dramatic Arts education programming in our community for young people of all skill level and ability. We believe a safe and supportive environment to practice the skills drama engages is vital to a young person’s growth and education in the classroom and beyond. We provide:
•After School Drama programs in Northeast Seattle Schools
•Therapeutic Movement Groups that use theater exercises to teach concentration, cooperation and impulse control
•Early Education Dramatic Play classes for 3-5 year olds
•Outdoor Summer Theater Programs in our community
•Collaborative opportunities for community organizations seeking Dramatic Arts Education
•Professionals dedicated to teaching young people in our community

Learning in the Studio setting:

Theater, acting, sharing your work on stage involves craft. It takes time and practice. It’s the same with the Dramatic Arts. Learning a craft means starting with the basics, practicing, and having a safe space to learn from your mistakes and celebrate your victories. At Wedgwood Drama Studio, we believe it is important to give young people the building blocks to have successful performance experiences in the classroom. When students gain a sense of how to use their bodies, voices, and imaginations in a studio setting, they begin to explore the possibilities of what it means to share their creative work outside the walls of the classroom. We know, when young people are encouraged to take risks, try new things, and stretch their growing wings in a supportive environment, they gain experiences they can carry with them as they take their next leaps in life

This week marks 18 years of Wedgwood Drama Studio, and honestly, if you ask me, we’ve already won.

For 18 summers, I’ve gotten to spend my days outdoors telling stories, making movies, being creative, and laughing with people I love and admire. I’ve been lucky enough to spend the last 14 summers alongside Julius, and CJ, pictured on the right, is heading into his fourth summer with us. The rest of our incredible team (Nyce Somar, Jesica Avellone , Ana María Campoy, Megan and Sophia) will be joining us soon, and I can’t wait to spend another summer creating together.

This year, we were also honored to win Gold in Seattle’s Child Magazine for Performing Arts and Break Camps. It’s a wonderful recognition, but what means the most to me has never been an award.

It’s the families who come back year after year. The kids who arrive nervous and leave confident. The former campers who return as teen helpers. The friendships, inside jokes 🐦‍⬛, traditions, and stories we’ve created together over nearly two decades.

To everyone who has trusted us with their children, volunteered, cheered us on, recommended us to a friend, or spent even one summer with us, thank you. Wedgwood Drama Studio exists because of this community, and I am grateful for it every single day.
