What an evening of celebration!
- Performances of the works by our student composer winners - Kaisho Barnhill and Soren Engström!
- 15 works by 13 Northwest composers - 8 in attendance - (L to R in pic) Don Skirvin, Jessica French, Emily Pontén May, Christine Szabadi, Will Rand, Soren, Kaisho, John Muehleisen and Melinda Bargreen!
- 6 world-premieres, 3 west-coast premieres
- Honoring Whitney Tjerandsen for her over 25 years of extraordinary gifts of time, talent, service, and financial support to Opus 7!
- The incredibly talented Dwight Beckmeyer on piano and Opus 7 singers performing a wide-variety of works!
- And, the enthusiastic audience, who leapt to their feet at the end following after our performance of Jabberwocky!

This has been a remarkable year of music-making:
- Oct: Music by and about women who have led, sacrificed, created, and inspired;
- Dec: Britten’s Saint Nicolas with over 200 performers;
- March: Music by Seattle’s Bern Herbolsheimer;
- and on Saturday night, our 12th every-other-year “All Northwest” concert.

Opus 7 is thrilled to perform the winning compositions from our 25th-annual Robert Scandrett Memorial Student Composer Competition on Saturday, May 2nd!

Our All Northwest concert will premiere Soren Engström’s setting of "The Last Rose of Summer". Soren is a graduate student at Central Washington University studying choral conducting and vocal pedagogy. His work as a conductor, composer, and educator centers on empowering others and creating meaningful musical experiences for performers and audiences alike.

Opus 7 is thrilled to perform the winning compositions from our 25th-annual Robert Scandrett Memorial Student Composer Competition on Saturday, May 2nd!

Our All Northwest concert will premiere Kaisho Barnhill’s work for piano and choir, "Apollo 11". Kaisho is an undergraduate student at University of Washington majoring in Music Education, Music Theory, and Psychology. He is a percussionist and pianist, and regularly performs with the UW Wind Ensemble and UW Symphony Orchestra on both instruments. Barnhill primarily composes works for percussion, solo piano, and orchestra, but has also composed for chamber ensembles and choir.

I am so proud of Opus 7 and guest performers Joseph Adam, piano & organ; Chad DeMaris, tenor; Janet Putnam, oboe; Karen Sunmark, percussion; and Patrick Hunninghake and Bruce Daugherty, trumpet for a magical moving performance last Saturday night at St. James – honoring the memory of our good friend Bern Herbolsheimer. We have been so blessed by his wonderful music. -Loren
