Beginning Balinese Dance

The class will break down the essential elements of classical Balinese dance. Learn how to tie a kamben (provided), the basic positions and movements of the feet, arms, and eyes, an explanation of the different styles, characters and stories of some of the most well known dances, and how all of this is undergirded by Balinese religion, sense of community, and culture.

No experience necessary and all ages and genders welcome! You can attend one or all four sessions and they do not have to be taken in order, drop in anytime. Suggested donation: $15/ class or 4 class card $50

We are honored to be performing for the book launch for Blue Skies, Troubled Waters by Martha Walandouw Lohn and Brian Kimmel, which tells the remarkable true story of twin sisters Ath and Kath, born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, in 1933, whose family is uprooted and deported to the jungles of Indonesia due to their father’s undocumented status. Their new life is quickly shattered when, in 1941, Japan invades, and the family is imprisoned as civilian prisoners of war.
