In this week's newsletter, I highlighted several Black businesses, artists, and authors that are currently represented in the shop and shared that information with my subscribers. Although I intend to have the newsletter offer different (and often earlier) content than social media, I would like to share this one with all of you. Trying to condense the information into 400 words would be next to impossible for me! The featured individuals are:
- Miki Conn- poet, author, activist with a poetry collection on our shelves
- of Artmon3y created a graphic for a souvenir shirt here
- Tiffany Harris of Whip My Butta Organics by Jania has a wide variety of skincare and haircare products, including a limited edition "Black Love" series
- Pauline Saunders of Evadneyline sells upcycled handbags and jewelry made at
- Bennett Raglin of has a curated collection of imported Moroccan ceramics
- Elizabeth Zunon Illustrator - illustrator (Albany) of 17 books depicting Black characters and culture
- Carolyn and Frederick Wellington of Wellington's Herbs and Spices (Schoharie)
Schenectady is a very diverse community and any grouping that is exclusively white cannot fully represent it. It goes without saying that these individuals should be recognized year-round for the ways in which they are enriching the culture of their communities, whether it be the physical one that they live in or the business or creative circles that they occupy in the marketplace. So you will find their products during the month of February but also in March, April and the months that follow.
