From Prog Rock to Country to the Twin Cities: A Huge Month of Music! 🎙️🥁
It has been an incredibly busy and diverse stretch here at Split Willow Studio, with some exciting stops along the way!
1️⃣ The Return of the Prodigy: Maxwell Locke Drummer, an amazing 9-year-old drummer, was back for his second session at SWS! It’s always a treat to watch him work—he tackled complex tracks by RUSH and Dream Theater with unbelievable precision. All before turning double-digits for his birthday. The kid is a powerhouse! His dad Bob Locke is a talented musician as well!
2️⃣ Studio Collaboration: We had Anthony Page in the studio to work on one of his original songs. We had a blast watching the track develop as we layered in the vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. Here's Anthony laying down a scratch vocal track and Greg Huberty adding the acoustic guitar. It’s coming together beautifully—keep an ear out for Anthony’s release!
3️⃣ Acoustic Vibes: I also hosted the talented duo Dawn and Hunter as Chasing Dawn Band this past week. There’s something special about their voices blending together and the natural resonance of Hunter’s guitar in the studio. They are an absolute pleasure to work with. They will be at the Midwest Country Music Organization awards show, so greet them if you see them. Check out the video clip for a short "behind-the-glass" look at their session! 🎥👇
4️⃣ On the Road: We even took the show on the road to Winterland Studios in Minneapolis! I created a custom backing track for Nolan Schmidt, who absolutely nailed the drum parts for a 3-song Brooks & Dunn medley. Bo Allen Productions produced the video and Greg Huberty Productions mixed the session.
Whether it’s prog-rock, country, or soulful originals, I love helping artists capture their vision.
