Derek Hughes, age 91, passed away peacefully on May 10th, 2026 in Southbury, Ct.
An Episcopal service will be held at First Congregational Church in Washington, Connecticut, on Saturday, June 6th at 2pm. Following the service, guests are invited to gather in the church hall.
You may come across the shorter obituary I wrote for my dear old dad, or “Boss” as I called him. Unfortunately for anyone hoping for brevity, I wasn’t quite finished.
Consider this the extended director’s cut—a longer tribute to a man who stubbornly refused to be summed up in a few paragraphs. I hope it paints a picture for those who never knew him and brings a smile to those who did.
