Thank you everyone for an amazing weekend! I am very grateful for all the support. I'm not at the Keene Farmer's Market as much as the one in Saranac Lake, so several times on Sunday I had previous customers excitedly exclaim "you're back!" and ask about my daughter. It was fun to reconnect with them and share about our little girl. I know I'm extremely fortunate to be able to pursue my art and I'm grateful I get to spend most Thursdays and Fridays with my girl, but it was really hard to be away from her this weekend. It was beautiful weather and she and my husband were having lots of fun together; it made me sad to be missing family time. I love being at the markets and meeting new people, but by the end of a two-market weekend I'm exhausted and missing my family. It was a great weekend and I'm going to be busy the next two weeks making more art.

I've been terrible at posting lately, sorry about that! Our daughter is only in daycare three days a week, which is great for the two of us, we get to spend a lot more time together. But that also means that every minute she's at daycare I'm working my butt off to get art made. When the day is finally wrapped up and she's asleep, I seldom have the capacity for a social media post.
This piece was a custom for a local business, The Prescott House, and is my largest piece to date. It is 5 feet long and 25 pounds! I'm thrilled with how it turned out. Large pieces can be quite the challenge - painting the sky was very intimidating and a bit of a battle to get everything blended before the paint dried. I also had to make sure I had lumber that was wide enough for some of the pieces in the foreground. Cutting some of the longer pieces was challenging as well because I was approaching the maximum length of wood my scroll saw can handle. Assembling and framing this was a full body workout, it was bulky and quite heavy. In the end I pushed through the challenges and I was sad to let it go. This view is special to me because it's the view from the mountain where we got married.

It was a terrific day at the Saranac Lake Farmer's Market! I love a good surprise, and today I got to participate in one. Last summer my client asked me to make a portrait of her family, I said yes of course, but I was unable to make it that summer because I was too busy with markets and then I would be on maternity leave. She was very understanding and willing to wait. When I was getting ready to make it and we were talking about the delivery timeline, she mentioned that she wanted to surprise her husband with it. She said that they'd be in the area on vacation and she thought it would be fun to have the piece hanging in my booth and he could discover it. I knew I had to get the piece done in time because that was way too cute! This morning I was so excited as I hung up the art, waiting for their arrival. So many people throughout the day stopped to admire the piece and I told them about the surprise and everyone was excited and commented on what a sweet plan it was. Finally the family arrived and the dad was so busy looking at my other art that he didn't notice the family portrait. Finally the mom and kiddos couldn't take it anymore and had to explicitly point it out to him. After he got past the confusion, he was very excited and happy. It was hilarious and adorable and I'm so glad I got to be a part of it. Thank you for letting me make this piece for you, and thanks for letting me be a part of a very sweet surprise.

Another great day at in Saranac Lake. It started off rainy, but by the end of the market the sun was trying to peek out. I met lots of new people today, including an adorable family who took home the piece in the middle. Mount Jo is a special place to them - they got engaged on top, did their gender reveal there, and have hiked it many other times. We chatted about our love of the area and how we hoped our kids would like the mountains as much as we do. Thank you for buying this piece, I really enjoyed our conversation and watching your little boy smile!

On Sunday night I displayed my art at the annual dinner for the I had a lot of fun talking to fellow 46ers about their time in the mountains. When talking about being a 46er, I feel like the most common question is "what was your favorite?" But I like to ask people what was their least favorite, or what was their most memorable (good or bad). The High Peaks are tough - the trails are steep, rocky, and muddy. There are often exposed scrambles, the bugs can be so bad you think they might carry you away, and some trails are very long. But that's what makes this journey so memorable, both the good and the hard. I had fun reminiscing about my own 46er journey and hearing about others.
This piece is a special one. Angie and Norm knew they wanted to finish on Grace Peak, and even before they had finished, they knew they wanted my art to celebrate their accomplishment. They celebrated in style at the top, packing in balloons and taking pictures with them. It was an honor to be able to make this piece for them. Also, aren't they the cutest?

My first outdoor market of the year was a good one, made even better because my little helper visited me! Thanks for having me! This is truly my favorite market - so many familiar faces, and lots of new ones too. I love chatting with everyone and sharing my love of wood and mountains. Thank you to everyone who stopped by my booth today and a special thank you to those who purchased my art. As always, feeling grateful! So excited for this summer. Also, I introduced a new product today, wooden vases/propagation stations - you can see them behind me. Finally making some of these things I've had in my head for years.

I'm pretty sure most intarsia artists number the individual pieces, but for some reason my brain says that would be slower. This took me just under 4 minutes to reassemble. I repeat a lot of my patterns, so I know them pretty well by now making it a pretty quick process. I do have one rather large pattern that I have to double check the key for some of the smallest pieces, but usually I can reassemble from memory. I love jigsaw puzzles, so it makes sense that I like this step. Sound on for some ASMR
