This Is What Success Looks Like at SF4tA:
Some of the best success stories at Santa Fe for the Arts aren’t things we can measure. They’re things we get to watch unfold.
Two of our youth bands Call the dogs & The Roachez 🪳 are now independently practicing, creating, booking places to play, and preparing for upcoming shows in public spaces. Our theatre students are seeking out additional opportunities, joining another theatre club Performing & Visual Arts Center , writing their own scripts, creating videos and movie scenes, and sharing their work on social media .
We’re seeing young people take ownership of their creativity.
Cameras are being gifted. Drawing and painting supplies are finding their way into young hands. Mentors are encouraging ideas and helping young people discover what they’re capable of.
But perhaps the most powerful success is what happens when art changes the way a young person sees people—and themselves.
We hear students talk about teachers and mentors they once thought were “anti-art” or someone they didn’t understand. Then they discover the creativity, color, and individuality in that person.
Their own creativity is opening their eyes to the idea that things aren’t always what they seem. People are more than first impressions. And they are more than the labels placed on them.
And sometimes, in that process, a young person recognizes something about themselves:
“I’m creative. I’m an artist.”
That moment is why we do what we do.
SF4tA isn’t just creating artists.
We’re helping young people learn to see possibility—in art, in others, and in themselves. ❤️🎨
