This tragedy has changed the conversation around roller coaster safety.

Roller coasters are supposed to be fun — an escape, and a place where families make memories. What happened on Goliath has understandably raised a lot of difficult questions, especially around restraint systems and how incidents like this can happen at all.

We’re still waiting for official answers, but it’s hard not to look at things a little differently after this week.

Six Flags has already been facing criticism over the guest experience — and now safety is part of the conversation too.

The coaster enthusiast community is only a small part of the people visiting these parks every day. If families start questioning whether they feel safe, that becomes a much bigger issue for the industry.

This tragedy has raised difficult questions, and while we’re waiting for official answers, they’re conversations that need to be had.

This week has been a difficult one for the roller coaster community.

We wanted to sit down, process what happened on Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia, talk through our own reactions, and discuss some of the questions this tragedy has raised around coaster safety and the industry as a whole.

We also share our own experience riding Goliath earlier this summer and why we think it’s important to wait for official findings before jumping to conclusions.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family and friends of those who have been impacted.

Six Flags B&Ms with clamshell restraints REMAIN CLOSED this weekend.

Several similar B&M coasters across Six Flags parks will stay temporarily closed out of an abundance of caution following the tragic incident at Six Flags Over Georgia.

Park presidents at Kings Island, Carowinds, Canada’s Wonderland and other locations have issued similar updates, while the parks themselves remain open for their scheduled Halloween events.

We’ll continue to share confirmed updates as more information becomes available.

Orion and Diamondback will remain temporarily closed at Kings Island this weekend. 🎢

The park says the closures are out of an abundance of caution following the tragic incident at Six Flags Over Georgia earlier this week.

All other scheduled rides and attractions are expected to operate as normal.

UPDATE from Kings Island:

Park President Tony Carovillano says Orion and Diamondback remain temporarily closed out of an abundance of caution as Six Flags continues reviewing the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident at Six Flags Over Georgia.

Kings Island is open as scheduled, and all other rides and attractions that were planned to operate will remain available, subject to normal operating conditions.

We’ll continue to share updates as more information becomes available.

I rode Goliath earlier this summer, and during my ride I didn’t notice anything that concerned me.

It’s an intense coaster with some very strong airtime, which only adds to the questions surrounding what happened this week.

Several similar B&M coasters remain temporarily closed out of caution, and we’ll be watching to see if any reopen this weekend.

The exact cause of the incident remains unknown.
