Today, I can't help but think of the shows I've been so fortunate to be a part of, and the people I was blessed to be able to get to know as a result.
I'm so grateful that I had the chance to work with Tim McGowan before his passing. He showed kindness and dedication that will truly stick with me forever.
What amazed me most about Tim in this particular production was his willingness to challenge himself and learn something new.
Throughout working on this show, Tim said over and over that he had never done a show like this in his entire career, and that that's what made him immediately agree to take the role. He didn't particularly know about or understand trans identities, but he approached the production with openness and respect. He learned to puppeteer our dear friend Peterson in the course of little over a month. And although performing a butoh dance was certainly not his favorite part of the production, he persevered.
He wasn't just willing to step out of his comfort zone. He was eager to. He seemed to love getting the chance to learn and experience something new. That's a trait that I think few people truly exemplify, and it's one that I will always remember and carry with me.
Thank you Tim for everything you taught me.
