Last summer me and a few others were invited to a songwriting retreat with retired Santa Barbara area police officers and other first responders. At the retreat the songwriters were paired one on one with these first responders and the goal was to hear their story and write a song based on what they shared. It was meant to provide a kind of music therapy. But what transpired was so much more. Within those 3 days, friendships were forged, therapy was experienced from both sides and deep healing took place in us all.

A UCSB film crew was present during the retreat and a couple of weeks ago they premiered the documentary they captured! After the premiere, several of us were able to highlight the first responders and share the songs we wrote. Wow. what a night.

Thank you John for sharing your story and inviting me into it. You were a gift to me that Saturday morning. I'll carry what you shared and how shared it with me for the rest of my life. Thank you for serving and protecting us.

Thank you Ken Wolff for trusting me with your story as well! We walked in as strangers and left as brothers. What a joy it was to hammer out that song with you! Your heart was wide open and I took away much more than I was able to give. Hope and pray the narrative of your life goes further and farther than you could ever have imagined! Thank you for all your years of serving and protecting your community!

Heres a little lyric video of the the last track on my Christmas record. Loooooove the piano on this one. It was played by . In fact he plays piano and dobro on the whole album. He’s one of my favs! One day in December past, he sent me a voice memo of a chord progression he was ironing out. I quickly grabbed a pencil and paper and in 5 minutes all the lyrics and a working melody were there. That’s what Eli brings to the table every single time he plays ...something that moves your soul. The next day we met up and finished the rest of the song.

Hey ya’ll! My dear friend Allie just released her record today! Her producing, writing, playing, singing is unreal and her honest heart after Jesus is so contagious. Stream it, buy it, listen to it! Aaaaand I’m so grateful to have been apart of writing this song “At the end of my day” with her. Proud of you Allie for working so hard and pouring your heart and soul and insane talent into this project!

Man, this was a super fun night! Just about a year ago, we had the CD release concert for the Christmas album in Santa Barbara and had a good ol’ time. Many many thanks to my good pal Justin Vea for shooting this video of “Joy To The World”.... and many thanks to my friends who made the evening sound so good!

Last week, my dear friend Scott Cunningham released this EP that I'm so happy be apart of! He and I wrote "awaken our hearts" together. It's a song that's been super meaningful to me in this new chapter of my life. Congrats on the release Scott! So much love for you and your family! Loved every second we were able to spend writing this. Your heart is so big for Jesus and the church!

Man, I'm still thinking about Easter morning a couple days ago. I haven't moved on yet. It was pretty special gettin to play a handful of songs with great friends. They were songs that do their best to describe the revolutionary love and world-altering power of Jesus. I'm a slow-learning, mistake-prone, grateful Jesus follower, and hearing and playing songs about who He is have always captivated me since I was a child. It was also pretty special to hang a little with my newer friend Nick Vujicic. Hearing his story told again never gets old. Thanks again for being here this weekend and pouring out your heart!! So many lives were touched, including mine.
