Join us at The Sanctuary Studio for a special evening of jazz featuring Young Artists in Residence Miri Izenberg and Emmet Althoen—two remarkable musicians whose artistry, dedication, and creative promise have earned them a place in this ongoing performance series.

Selected by studio owner Simon Drew as part of The Sanctuary Studio’s Young Artists in Residence program, Miri and Emmet represent a rising generation of artists deeply committed to both musical excellence and the spirit of live performance.

A senior at the Orange County School of the Arts, Miri Izenberg is an acclaimed vocalist and trumpet player whose achievements include soloist awards from DownBeat Magazine and the Essentially Ellington Festival at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Drawing inspiration from jazz greats including Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae, Jazzmeia Horn, and CĂŠcile McLorin Salvant, Miri brings a rare combination of technical mastery, emotional depth, and artistic individuality to the stage.

Joining her is pianist Emmet Althoen, 15, a member of OCSA’s Ambassador Jazz Orchestra under the direction of John Reynolds. A student of acclaimed pianist Jeremy Siskind, Emmet’s playing balances remarkable technical command with thoughtful improvisation, creating performances that are both sophisticated and deeply expressive.

Together, these young artists offer an intimate evening celebrating the future of jazz—music shaped by curiosity, discipline, creativity, and heart.
