An intimate gathering of improvised music, poetry, stillness, and deep listening at The Sanctuary Studio.

Part concert, part sound bath, part open meditation, Sanctuary Sessions brings together musicians from Eastern and Western traditions to create something entirely in the moment.

For this gathering:

Simon Drew — Bansuri, Didgeridoo & Trumpet
Cole Sainburg — Shakuhachi & Bass
Dani Ekbote — Tablas

Sit. Lie down. Meditate. Pray. Journal. Close your eyes and listen.

We’ll light a candle, allow the room to become still, and the music will begin.

Step back into the golden age of jazz ✨

Join us this Friday evening at The Sanctuary Studio for an intimate performance with vocalist Cristina Trujillo, celebrating the timeless music of early jazz, swing, and the Great American Songbook.

Drawing inspiration from the great female vocalists of the 1930s and ’40s—including Helen Forrest, Bea Wain, and Anita O’Day—Cristina will share a collection of heartfelt ballads, playful swing numbers, beloved melodies, and hidden treasures from another era.

Come experience an evening of warmth, nostalgia, graceful storytelling, and infectious swing in the intimate setting of The Sanctuary Studio.

The great Eric Stoner (Eric Stoner) does it again with these perfectly psychedelic photos of our two-year anniversary performance last Friday. It truly means the world to have an artist of Eric’s caliber capturing these special moments. 📸✨

I mentioned at the top of our performance that it would be three things specifically:

🌱 1: A pronouncement: “Sanctuary Found”

When I started The Sanctuary Studio, nothing could have prepared me for just how quickly and clearly the community would come out to support and be a part of this seed of a vision. Now, two years in, its clear that the Sanctuary I sought has been found in the love, joy, and beauty that every person brings to this special space, whether they be a student, concert attendee, artist, or just a well-wisher.

🙏 2. A prayer of gratitude

I wanted this performance to be different—a devotional offering of gratitude to every person who has contributed in was big or small to the growth and refinement of The Sanctuary Studio.

🏔️ 3. A blessing on our future

Finally, I wanted our music to be a blessing on the studio and the places we’ll go as this vibrant creative community grows.

Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate with us! Without a doubt, that was my favorite performance of my entire life. The spirit was just right, and I felt completely supported and lifted by the incredible musicians around me as I brought out the Bansuri for the first time. Thank you Lia Booth, Cole Sainburg, Dani Ekbote and Kevin Karagozian! 💛

Here’s to many more years making music and meaning at The Sanctuary Studio! And yes, we’ll be doing this kind of devotional music a lot more in the near future. 🌱

A Musical Blessing by Simon Drew & Friends

This Friday, we celebrate two years of The Sanctuary Studio with a very special evening of music, gratitude, and reflection.

For this milestone, Simon Drew is joined by a one-of-a-kind ensemble of friends and collaborators for something quite different from our usual concerts.

Through voice, breath, rhythm, improvisation, and stillness, the ensemble will explore a devotional landscape of sound — featuring didgeridoo, bansuri flute, shakuhachi, tablas, upright bass, piano, trumpet, and voice.

More than a concert, Sanctuary Found is an offering of gratitude: for this little space, for the extraordinary artists and students who have filled it with life, for the community that has gathered around it, and for whatever lies ahead.

Friends, two years ago this week I signed the lease on our special space in the Pacific Building and began turning it into The Sanctuary Studio. ✨

Absolutely nothing could’ve prepared me for how beautiful the next two years would be, but here we are now with a seriously magical studio that comes to life every day with the incredible students, artists and guests who make up our creative community. We couldn’t have gotten here without all of your support and encouragement!

Here’s to the memories and meaning we’ve all made together up to this point, and to the many more years to come! 🌱
