Did You Know?

Did you know, Buck Rogers was the very first science fiction comic strip hero.

The character, at first named Anthony Rogers, was introduced in the first science fiction magazine, "Amazing Stories", in August 1928, by Philip Nowlan.

At the time, Philip Nowlan did not know that he would be the person responsible for inspiring many 20th century space science fiction writers.

The story led to the creation of a comic strip debuting in January 1929, with Anthony renamed ā€œBuck,ā€ which sounded more heroic and capitalized on the popularity of Westerns at that time.

This was followed by a radio show, which began in 1932.

Both the comic strip and radio show were wildly popular and soon Buck Rogers merchandise was everywhere.

Historians credit the very first science fiction toy to be manufactured, was the Buck Rogers Rocket Police Patrol spaceship by Louis Marx & Co.

To celebrate Buck Rogers, here are some wonderful images of early Buck Rogers nostalgia and the 1934 Buck Roger Rocket Police Patrol spaceship.

80's Saturday Nights!

One of my fondest memories was as a kid, watching WWF's Saturday Night Main Event with my family.

Preparing for the wrestling star lineup of spectacular mayhem, we would pop popcorn, put it in a big brown paper bag, add a little salt, and shake.

Grab some drinks, and make a fortitude fake wrestling ring with couch cousins and pillows.

Then the show would begin!

Introducing those famous wrestlers, Hulk Hogan, Randy Macho Man Savage, King Kong Bundy, Andre The Giant, Bulldogs, and Rowdy Roddy Piper.

To honor those 80's amazing wrestlers, here are some image from those days of old, and from our archive.

šŸŽµ There's no need to fear! Underdog is here!
when criminals in this world appear
and break the laws that they should fear
and frighten all who see or hear
the cry goes up both far and near
for Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! Underdog!

speed of lightning, roar of thunder
fighting all who rob or plunder
Underdog. Underdog! šŸŽµ

One of my favorite syndicated cartoons growing up in the 70s, was Underdog!

Underdog was a Saturday morning animated television series that premiered on NBC October 3, 1964.

The show featured Underdog, AKA Shoeshine Boy's heroic alter ego, appearing whenever love interest Sweet Polly Purebred is being victimized by the evil villains Simon Bar Sinister & Riff Raff.

With much success, the series went on to produce 62 episodes, ending on the CBS network March 4, 1967, sponsored by General Mills.

In 2007, Disney released a real live action film of everyone's favorite heroic K9, directed by Fredrick Du Chau.

Here is to you Underdog!
