Pictured in this photograph by are native elders, a young mother and father, a teenager, adolescent, and toddler. The elders represent those that originally occupied the land and from whom we seek knowledge. The mother and father are the current guardians of that land, and the children are our future. Wearing both traditional and contemporary clothing portrays the coexistence of both natives and non-natives.

Rooted In What Carries Us is a major group exhibition featuring Native and Indigenous perspectives from Southern California and beyond, depicting the original peoples of this land as multidimensional individuals, each with unique traditions and stories that comprise the multifaceted identity of Turtle Island. Painting, drawing, fiber, ceramics, basket weaving, beadwork, and photography, are represented by thirty-nine contemporary Native and Indigenous artists working today.

Rooted In What Carries Us will be open from September 12th–October 24th, with a public opening reception Sunday, September 13th from 2–4pm.
