Like a dream... has been a concept I have been building in my head for the past few years. Although I am not much of an artist myself, I am constantly drawn to art and the amazing humans that create it. I have met so many wonderful people along my journey and I invited all of them to share their art with you.
Not only will we be supporting local artists, but all ticket proceeds and a portion of art sales will go to Beagle Freedom Project.
Beagle Freedom Project is a non-profit animal rescue and advocacy organization and the world’s leading organization for rescuing and rehoming animals used in experimental research. BFP is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of animals used in testing and research and subjected to other forms of unique cruelty, abuse and neglect. BFP strives to end this cruelty through its educational programs, campaign initiatives and lobbying efforts to make the world a better, safer and healthier place for both animals and people alike.

Love to make art that uplifts local history, even in another state – I'm one of 40 artists in the Zip Us Up! project up now on view at the Baldwin Public Library in Birmingham, MI. My canvas represents the Three Fires Council that existed for over a millennium (!!!).
The “three fires” refer to three tribes shown here in sequence.
The Ojibwe are the eldest tribe, and as such, the “keepers of the faith” (and gatherers of food and furs).
The Odawa facilitated much of the communication between groups and are the “keepers of the trade” (shown here with baskets).
The Bodéwadmi [Potawatomi] were the last to form (or “build their own fire” in community), so they are the “keepers of the fire”.

Where are you from and how does that affect your work❓
I was born in San Francisco in the early 1950s. I think the “anything goes” attitude of San Francisco in the 1960s has influenced what I do artistically.
Who are your biggest artistic influences❓
I have had a long-term love affair with two titans of 20th century art: Joan Miro and Alexander Calder. It was Miro who famously said, “if you have any notion of where you are going, you will never get there.” I follow that advice religiously.
Where do you find your inspiration❓
Basically where no one else is looking. I’ve long been attracted to the detritus and flotsam that inhabit the nether lands of our urban world. Found rusty wire forms the basis of my current work.
What motivates you to create❓
I make things because I cannot do otherwise. The materials push me—in my case rusty wire. I usually let the wire follow its own course and things often work out.
How do you define success as an artist❓
For me it’s pretty simple—to create a body of work and say to myself, “hey, that’s not bad.” Yes, it’s great to sell your work and certainly it’s good for the ego when someone says, “wow, I really like that,” but in the end I’m the one who must be satisfied.
How do you develop your art skills❓
After many years I have developed a direction that I keep refining. My medium is somewhat proprietary, so I basically just keep working along my own path and I'm constantly looking. I don’t have a formal art degree, but I have studied art independently for most of my adult life.

TWO BUCK Tuesday at Kaleid Gallery is this Tuesday Dec. 18th and features life drawing sessions with model Laura Barragán (a vocalist, song writer, music teacher, and avid collector of postcards) hosted by KALEID gallery resident artist Matthew Heimgartner. 7pm–10pm, all experience levels welcome, admission is FREE (feel fell free to tip the model). We'll also have a glitter ornament demo that you can participate in hosted by artist Amy Beans! And as if that weren’t enough; artist & photographer Valentino Loyola has offered to shoot your art work for free from 7pm–10pm. If you would like to have your work photographed: please read the guidelines and arrive by 7:30pm and sign up on the sign up list. •You may bring up to 2 works of art •Size: 60” x 40” or smaller (larger work can be accommodated but will not have a white background on the oversized part) •Reflective surfaces are okay to bring •Jewelry, ceramics, are also welcome •you’ll receive high resolution digital images •FREE of charge We also have our main feature holiday show & sale up featuring 40 gallery and community artists participating with amazing art at affordable gift giving prices.
