Amy painted this hanami dango to celebrate spring. Andy and I are currently taking classes in Tokyo to wrap up our teacher certification! It is so much fun being a student again and soaking up all this inspiration. 🎨

日本語↓ Hello from this cheerful little frog! 🐸 This is Andy's recent etegami, painted simply to capture a moment of warmth and happiness.

Etegami is all about expressing yourself honestly and embracing the philosophy that "it's okay to be imperfect, imperfect is good." The spirit of the art is to convey a heartfelt message.

The text on the frog is the kanji 遊 (Yū or Asobi), meaning "play" or "amusement." This little guy is ready for some fun and leisure on his lily pad! It's a reminder to enjoy the simple things in life.

陽気な表情のこのカエルさん🐸から、こんにちは！ これが私の新作の絵手紙です。

絵手紙は「ヘタでいい、ヘタがいい」という精神で、ありのままの自分を表現するのが醍醐味です。今回は、温かい気持ちと、ふくよかなカエルさんの幸せな瞬間を描きました。

カエルに添えた文字は 「遊」。遊び心や、人生を楽しむ気持ちを込めてみました！蓮の上でくつろぐカエルさんのように、のんびり過ごしたいですね。

Etegami (Japanese painted postcards) are all about treasuring simple joys from daily life. What’s more daily and delightful than the changing seasons?

This time of year, we look to the pumpkins! We just wrapped up a fun Etegami class where we painted these beautiful jack-o'-lanterns to celebrate autumn and Halloween.

Notice how the focus isn't on making a perfect pumpkin, but on capturing that fun, slightly spooky, perfectly imperfect feeling of the season? That's the magic! The pumpkin's 'living line' and the vibrant orange wash are an honest expression of this moment.

Tip for your own Etegami: Look at the simple object—the pumpkin—and ask yourself: 'What feeling does this give me?' Then, add a short, heartfelt message that connects to that feeling!
