It's Mexican independence day!! Here's some Mexican history.
The Real-Life "Nikkes" of History: The Deep History of the Adelitas! 🇲🇽🔫
If you’ve ever wondered what a real-life squad of gun-toting heroines looks like outside of the Ark, look no further than the Adelitas (officially known as soldaderas) during the Mexican Revolution (1910–1920)!
Long before humanity took to the surface in high-tech gear, these women took to the frontlines with Ma**er ri**es, heavy bandoliers, and pure grit.
While popular culture often reduced them to camp followers, the historical reality is that the Mexican Revolution could not have been won without them:
Frontline Combatants & Officers:
Women like Margarita Neri commanded a cavalry force of over 1,000 troops in southern Mexico, executing brilliant guerrilla tactics.
Meanwhile, Valentina Ramírez disguised herself as "Juan Ramírez" to fight in the trenches, earning the rank of lieutenant through her exceptional marksmanship before her true identity was revealed.
Combat Logistics & Train Operations:
Dictator Porfirio Díaz’s army relied heavily on the railway network, and so did the revolutionaries.
Soldaderas rode on the roofs and cattle cars of military supply trains, managing weapons, securing food, and setting up tactical camps at every stop along the desert tracks.
Spies, Smugglers, & Medics:
Women like Carmen Serdán smuggled dynamite, ri**es, and secret intelligence past federal checkpoints under their heavy traditional dresses.
On the battlefields, nurses like Adela Velarde Pérez—the young woman from Ciudad Juárez who inspired the famous corrido ballad that gave the Adelitas their name treated horrific gunshot wounds right in the line of fire under Pancho Villa's command.
Characters like Red Hood, Sugar, or Scarlet would’ve fit right in with these legendary women.
That iconic lookcrisscrossed bullet belts over traditional skirts, sombreros, and heavy ri**es—remains one of history's ultimate symbols of rebellion and strength.
Happy Mexican Independence Day to all our Commanders! 🇲🇽
