March is and we are excited to share another limited edition feature –Jammaar Hall.
Jammaar graduated from Oak Grove High School (San Jose, California) and came right to EVC, in part because his brother went to EVC.
He eventually discovered Psychology and loved it. Jammaar said he wanted to learn more about how people think. At EVC, he joined the DSP program and was part of Umoja Affirm. He also joined student government and was both Vice President and President.
Jammaar said that it hasn’t always been easy for him, having a disability, but he used it as motivation to work harder. Even when his grades weren’t where he wanted them to be, he persevered. Jammaar said that his mom always talked about how important education was. He said he has always loved education and always loved learning.
Jammaar graduated from Evergreen Valley College in 2016 and then graduated from San José City College in 2018. He is currently at San Jose State University since the Fall of 2019. He came in as a Psychology major and he said his community college experience really helped prepare him.
Jammaar’s goal is to go to an HBCU and earn his master’s in Sports Science and his Ph.D. in Psychology. He wants to work with professional and student athletes as well as people in the military.
“At every level, I heard doubts and it was extra motivation for me to graduate from jr high, then high school with a scholarship, and then graduate from EVC. Even when I didn’t have the best grades, I was motivated to get through the classes and get back on track.”
