AMERICAN PACHUCO: THE LEGEND OF LUIS VALDEZ, a celebration of the life and legacy of the visionary playwright and filmmaker behind El Teatro Campesino, Zoot Suit, and La Bamba, starts on Friday, July 31 at The Roxie. Join us for special in-person appearances with Luis Valdez and filmmaker David Alvarado.

In this definitive portrait, Valdez takes theater into the fields, the streets, and eventually Broadway, bringing Chicano stories to Hollywood and changing what American culture looks like forever.

Join us on Wednesday, July 8 for a RoxCine double feature! MUR MURS, Agnès Varda's 1981 kaleidoscopic documentary exploring Los Angeles’ vibrant mural movement, will play with Travis Gutiérrez Senger's ASCO: WITHOUT PERMISSION, the story of the revolutionary East Los Angeles art collective.

While living in LA, Varda set out to document the city's "whispering walls"—murals created largely by Chicano and Black artists. Featuring members of ASCO and other artists of the era, MUR MURS is a vibrant portrait of public art, community, and creative resistance in the early-1980s.

Executive produced by Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, ASCO: WITHOUT PERMISSION mirrors its subjects' boundary-breaking spirit, weaving documentary and fiction into a portrait of the groundbreaking Chicano artists who challenged the cultural establishment.

Part of Chicano Visions. Co-presented by Clarion Alley Mural Project and Cine+Mas SF / San Francisco Latino Film Festival.

Don't miss JARIPEO from Mexico. The documentary, directed by Efraín Mojica and Rebecca Zweig, explores q***r life within the traditional, hyper-masculine world of rodeos in ,Michoacán. The film contrasts the hyper-masculinity of the rodeo with identity, desire and acceptance.
