Our camp, Magic Lantern Society (Center Camp Plaza@4:00) was robbed this year on Burn Night. Someone used our public space for a personal shopping spree, and made off with over a third of our props and decor.❤️🩹
We've been providing a 24/7 safe space for deeper human interaction since 2015, and this is the first time in 10 YEARS we've had a theft like this. Every inch of our space is lovingly handcrafted or curated by myself, my husband, and our tiny crew, and many of the items have been with us since the very beginning. Ngl, it really hurts.
Didn't take any books, but took:
-ALL of our fortune telling supplies (runes, Chinese fortune sticks, at least 3 types of decks)
-ALL of our peacock feathers (2 big bunches)
-antique brass candlestick holder
-antique unicorn epic shame bell
-brass telescope in box
-chinese hand chimes
-wooden frog
-meditation chime
-Ganesha statue
-Guanyin Buddha statue
-interlocked wooden stand for abalone shell
-miniature chess set
-ENTIRE LARGE WOODEN BOX of different resin incense (!!!!)
-most of the gold and crystal suncatcher ornaments we tied from every tent corner, except for the plain ones. So 7 out of 10 suncatchers.
-EVERY gold butterfly clip hung around the tent
-multiple paper butterfly clips around the tent
-the "Magic" jar from our Placebo Dispensary booth outside the tent
-head massager
-"what religion are you" paper disc
-peacock feather pen from our guestbook
It feels like the work of one greedy garbage person—timed to Burn Night, when Center Camp emptied out, and so much was taken we think it was planned. But we’re not letting one bad egg sour what was otherwise one of our most magical burns yet—storms and all. We adored our Center Camp placement and can't wait to be back next year. Thank you to all the beautiful burners who stopped in, shared your stories, and enjoyed our space. The Magic Lantern may be our home on playa, but the Magic Lantern *Society* is anyone who steps inside.✨
