Dear friends,

It is with deep sadness we share that Juan Pablo Gutierrez, the founder and director of El Colectivo del Rescate Cultural, which for 40 years organized San Francisco's Día de Mu***os ritual procession, has joined the ancestors on this December 26th at 12pm at SFGH after a long period of illness.

There will be a memorial in his honor planned for the Spring of 2022, we will keep you posted. Meanwhile, we ask that you keep Juan Pablo, his friends and loved ones in your thoughts.

In this episode, we are joined by LGBTQ artist, activist, and the director of El Colectivo Del Rescate Cultural, Juan Pablo Gutierrez . We discuss how the Día De Los Mu***os ritual procession came to be, the impact and influence that the AIDS pandemic of the 1980s had on the ritual procession, and honoring nuestros mu***os during the era of COVID-19.

Calle 24 is hosting a remembrance and healing vigil on both Nov. 1 & 2 for Dia de Mu***os at 24th & Capp.

Note: This year El Colectivo del Rescate Cultural will not be calling for a Procession, as we cannot encourage the gathering of large crowds during this ongoing pandemic. We support organizations producing smaller events where our community can safely gather and we will be sharing them on this page. If you are staying at home, we invite you to visit our page on Nov. 2nd for a live broadcast of blessings and interviews with culture keepers.
