Pacificaires and Cedar Center Chorus

Pacificaires and Cedar Center Chorus A world-class community chorus of singers plus ensembles and soloists. We are a solid community of good friends making great music together. And all are invited.

The Pacificaires and Cedar Center Choruses are a thriving company of older adults that has performed for over 40 years under the auspices of the San Diego Community College District’s Continuing Education Emeritus program. Our performances showcase terrific soloists, ensembles, three piano-playing directors, and a seven-piece orchestra, amid the rich harmonies of a large, world-class chorus. The r

epertoire is wide and entertaining, including the genres of classical, international, contemporary, gospel, Broadway, holiday, opera, jazz, inspirational, and more. In every performance, we laugh and cry and sigh, as we move through selections expressing comedy, tragedy, and beauty. All of life is there. We perform in music halls, churches large and small, community centers, and independent living facilities. We've journeyed far from San Diego, to sing in national choral events in New York and Hawaii, even to Europe where we had the best of times collaborating with other community choruses in France and England. Our members, ages 20s to 90s, come together from all walks of life and levels of experience. Over the years, as our skills and talents evolve, our aspirations and accomplishments have as well. Our selections have grown increasingly complex and our range of genre's increasingly inclusive. Now we have also formed an advanced ensemble, Allegro! We are inspired by the power of music to enhance the lives of both performers and audience.

Each concert reminds us of concerts in the past - this shot is from our winter concert of 2025. Fond memories of singing under a great director, with a great accompanist, wonderful musicians (remember the harp, guitar, and marimba?) and a fine group of singers and friends. So happy we'll be able to perform again tomorrow!!

Great leaders - we thrive in the friendly, musical atmosphere that Ed Basilio, our director, and Cho-Hyun Park, our accompanist, create at rehearsals, in performance, and on social occasions!. We leave every rehearsal smiling!!

We will be opening our May 23 Concert with Faure's Requiem. To see details on the concert, scroll down the page to our poster.

Here's a little background on Faure's Requiem - Gabriel Fauré composed his Requiem in D minor, Op. 48, between 1887 and 1890. The choral-orchestral setting of the shortened Catholic Mass for the Dead in Latin is the best-known of his large works. Its focus is on eternal rest and consolation.

He was around 40 when he wrote the requiem. To see images of Faure, follow this link:
