BIO
Canadian born, Barbara Runge, is committed to the study of the language and mystery of art. She believes that through the exploration of art we can begin to perceive harmony and in turn feel harmony within ourselves. Barbara uses acrylic, oil, and sometimes mixed media to accomplish a unique blended style of painting. She has produced several bodies of work, but all share a common thread of life in all its diversity. Runge feels provoked by the human condition and all its complexities, which has led her to create paintings that are as diverse as life itself. Barbara feels it is possible for us to be drawn into a deeper place of discovery by this type of stimulating imagery.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My early childhood was spent traveling with my family on driving trips through small towns in America. Those experiences are engrained in me and helped me appreciate the small observations and photo vignettes that are of interest to me today as a professional photographer.
I describe my fine art photography as minimalist in approach. Most frequently, the vision begins with simple lines or shadow perspectives as I select the simple subject as the focal point. Sometimes, I will visit a location at different times of the day to capture different moods or alternative shadow lines on the subject. My images will often feature sweeping landscape vistas that are isolating and mysterious to the viewer.

Scott Amling is a professional landscape photographer who travels throughout North America, Europe and Asia. His photographs capture the unique and obscured subjects and experiences from normal encounters that often go unnoticed. He is inspired by discovering new locations and experiencing the landscape of structures and other natural phenomena (such as seaweed beds ready for harvest at low tide in Japan). Having studied Architecture in college contributes to his ability to bring innovative perspectives and vantage points to his work.

Gradually moving from film and a large format camera to digital, Scott began to study and learn new techniques with premier landscape photographers, including Michael Levin. Over the last several years, he has created his own identifiable style of minimalist images with alluring and calming visuals.

Mark Drawbridge
SD-FAR Tuesday Artists Showcase

I’ve lived in San Diego since 1985 after spending my youth in New England. A marine biologist by profession, I’ve been a freelance photographer for the past 15 years. Although I’ve been fortunate to have images published and exhibited in numerous juried galleries, the joy of photography is more about the experience for me. First it is witnessing the scene and second it is trying to capture it in a unique way. I enjoy photographing a variety of subjects, with a passion for capturing action and emotion inherent in nature and sports photography. In recent years I have been focusing on landscape and seascape images.

In my photography, I try to capture images that are unique and dramatic even if the subject matter is common. This often involves capturing a different perspective, dramatic lighting, striking colors, or fascinating subject behavior. While images that fill the frame with the subject can be wonderful, I often prefer environmental portraits. Becoming truly proficient in photography and the digital darkroom will be an endless pursuit, especially as digital technology continues to evolve. This challenge, coupled with the endless creative opportunities that photography offers as an art form, makes it a wonderful and worthwhile pursuit!

Joan Everds
SD-FAR Monday morning, Artists Showcase

Joan lived in suburban Chicago before moving to Coronado 30 years ago. She has a BA from Barat College, Lake Forest, IL where she studied photography under Michael Baruch. She later studied at the Art Institute of Chicago.

She has exhibited in many national and international juried shows and her work is in various private collections. Joan has received many honors from the San Diego County Fair and a gold, silver and honors in a large international exhibition, the Wilmington International Exhibition of Photography, held in Cooperation with the University of Delaware.

Jim Sinsheimer

Mr. Sinsheimer was initiated into the magic of photography when the house coal bin was converted to a dark room.

He pursued the craft with intensity during college and thereafter developed his skills while transitioning from film to digital imaging.
