The Hellenic Cultural Society of San Diego was established in 1964 to promote, educate and rekindle enthusiasm and pride of Hellenic heritage. Since the inception of our organization we have established free lectures from well known scholars, children's programs for local schools, and co-sponsored, with the Greek Community, three Greek history chairs at the University of California San Diego. We h
ave also created a substantial library that was recently donated to the Geisel library and UCSD. During the summer months we host movie nights, showing movies that not only reflect the history of Greece but also the beauty of it. Our Hellenic Ball was first held in October 1966 under the chairmanship of Steve Aposperis. Since then the ball is held every four years coinciding with the Summer Olympics. This ball with be held on Saturday, October 20th, commemorating the 30th Olympiad of the modern era. Located in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines hotel, with the theme of 'On the Wings of Knowledge'. We will celebrate the triumph of knowledge regarding Greek History. All donations are tax deductible and it is a wonderful event to attend. Starting this year, to gain a younger crowd, we are hosting a Chiton Party (Greek Toga) and Casino Night, featuring San Diego's own, DJ WIRED. . . dance to the sounds of house music while participating in casino fun, cash prizes for the the best toga costume and casino pots.
