Elusive Muse Glass

Elusive Muse Glass What started out as a little side hobby, a creative outlet, has become a small custom art glass business. You can find my online store at Etsy.com

Glass is possessed of a duality of being – sometimes a solid, yet always appearing fluid – its luminosity, its flow, and the way it captures and plays with light and color have always fascinated me. Creating something from molten glass is a process that’s both challenging and deeply spiritual to me – working with a molten blob of glass so hot that it is almost uncontrollable; cajoling it and seduc

ing shape and form from it as it cools; protecting it with yet more heat – it’s like a dance, set to the chaotic beat of fire, the strumming of tools, the horns of steam… the end result, hopefully a reminiscence of graceful motion between two partners coming together in the midst of that controlled chaos. This dance with glass is an analogy of life – we are not fully in control of our environment, but sometimes through dedication, passion, hard work, the wisdom of experience, some artistry and often luck, we pass through the crucible and emerge with something of interest, something worth sharing, something that brings joy to those around us. It’s this dance, fraught with the opportunities of disaster and the rewards of success, that make glassblowing so engaging and worthwhile. I hope you find as much delight in my attempts to create something beautiful as I have in the attempt. Born and raised in San Diego, I graduated from Boston College with a degree in Communications, lived in Spain for a time, and have been blowing glass now for a little over 2 years. I’m a member of the Art Glass Association of Southern California, and enjoy spending time surfing, hiking, and enjoying life. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or feedback on my work, and you can do so either here, or on my blog at www.elusivemuseglass.com

So, just to keep you all up to date - I took a bit of a break from glassblowing in June/July to save up and prep for the wedding (in August). The break was kind of compounded by my unanticipated (but fortunately timed) departure from GreatCall. And, although I am gainfully employed once again - this time as a consultant - I haven't had the opportunity to get back into the studio. At this point, based on budget and where I want to spend the time I'm not working, I'll likely be continuing the sabbatical from glass for a bit except for a couple of special project requests. So, that said - if there's something special you'd like made for a wedding, birthday or Christmas gift, please contact me so that I can schedule some studio time!

Thanks again to all of you for your support, encouragement, and friendship!

Best,
Tom

Just found out that one of the two orders I received this week was from one of the attendees of the Dallas event! Sweetness!

Added pics from the corporate event for Towers Watson in Dallas, at the arboretum, for which I did "the 100 flowers project" - AND, the feedback from the vases I supplied for the UC Irvine Med Center Nurse Awards was great, and resulted in a possible new custom order for a retirement gift! When it rains... =)

By the way, stay tuned, as I'll be posting up a promotion code for my Etsy site - use it and score a deal on hand-blown art glass (and as with last year, the proceeds will go to the ADA Walk!)

Hey friends, once again, I'm part of the GreatCall team of walkers and fundraisers for the ADA's Step Out To Stop Diabetes Walk - go to my personal page below if you'd like to donate!
