I don’t have much experience with . I actually this is my first time making a “ ” type thing that’s not out of paper mache. I know the earrings are not the best looking ones so I’ll eventually remake them as I learn more about clay.

I used so it was fairly simple. I did not follow the instructions too well, but it didn’t affect much. I used

I thought starting out making some simply earrings would be a nice easy start for me. So I wanted to recreate the two logos of one of my favorite YouTubers, . They’re quite easy shapes to recreate: a rectangle and a D-pad. Made the forms and laid them out to dry. As they are simple , they were quite simple to paint as well. I have to admit that I was a bit sloppy while making those so they aren’t my best.

I did, however, work on something else! And it had a much better result. Meet Harold! Who is this boi? Besides being a character, he is actually a Twitch emote for . Go check his content out! Back to Harold, the first problem I foresaw was his balance. It was either make his feet accurate or make his feet stable. I decided to make his feet accurate and simply add a form of balance at the end, hence the paperclip stand. There were however a few problems since I did not wait for the clay to completely dry (I’m supposed to wait at least a day… I waited like fifteen minutes), and some of his limbs started to detach easily. More glue (and treating him as a fragile item) helped! I am really, really proud of the paint of his face. It turned out pretty accurate!

It’s fun to experiment! Try it out sometime!

Día de los Mu***os / Day of the Dead

A wonderful celebration in Mexican culture where friends and family demonstrate the love and respect they have towards their deceased loved ones (even pets!). One often creates an altar featured with photos of the deceased along with offerings, including their favorite foods, and candles. We also cannot forget the candy skulls and the bread of the dead.

Although alebrijes are not directly associated with Day of the Dead, I found this fitting to post today! I bought this wooden piece from Michaels and painted it with Golden acrylics. I was a bit sloppy when starting it, but I think it came out pretty well, especially the color scheme. I am not quite sure yet of what my alebrije would look like; I’m happy it’ll be bright and colorful.
I’d really like to make a Day of the Dead inspired painting and maybe create my own Papel Picado (punched/perforated paper).

May all the Dead Rest In Peace

My DRAW midterm ✅
(Graphite pencils on 18 x 24 paper)

I’m not sure how many hours it took me but it was quite a bit between breaks.
I’m much of noob when it comes to using graphite pencils so I definitely felt that learning curve.
I have the typical fear of making the piece too dark so that was one of my struggles.
It was also considerably different because I was not allowed to smudge; it was all pencil lines.
It was fun though.

For those interested, I wrote the process down below.

Process:
• create a set up with a single direct light source; making sure the placement of the items are balanced and intriguing
• create smaller-scale thumbnail testing the orientation: portrait or landscape; the orientation should help emphasize the piece
• start sketching the items on a larger scale
• develop a value map: planning which areas are the darkest versus the lightest, etc.
• add the base value to each object and build on its value
• outline the shadows, and build on their value
• add more details (especially the reflections of the glass bottle)
• add some of the background without taking attention from the main objects

There were a lot of things to keep in mind while doing so that go into further detail. I really enjoyed making it. A lot of effort though; I ended up with graphite everywhere, including my face.
