👀👀👀👀 it’s almost everyone’s favorite time of year!!

FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS…….a whole month where you get to bring a friend into the studio for free to show them the ropes!

JUNE 1st at 8am, the event will go live on the app for members to reserve tickets for dates in JULY!

So choose your friend now & get it on the calendar!!

FWB will be every Wednesday in OB and every Thursday in Encinitas for ALL 5 weeks in July!

Yup! Soon Maek (the store) will be up & running in the front of .gather & you’ll be able to shop the stunning handmade goodies from our wildly talented members anytime you stop by 🤩

This part of the vision makes us especially excited because creating space for makers to not only create art, but share it with the world, feels really special.

We’re back with another ****member spotlight**** featuring .scrumptious.cake aka Monika!

Get to know her đź‘‹

What got you into ceramics/how did you start?
I bought a throwing lesson for my best friend and I for Christmas. She really didn’t take to it, but I fell in love the minute that wheel started spinning!!

What’s something you’ve made that you’re obsessed with? 
I have been making ruffled shell bowls in a bunch of sizes. I use Running Hot Chowder with a couple of other glazes on the inside and I love how organic and free flowing it looks. 

What’s your favorite tool and why?
Not a tool, but I’m obsessed with the glaze Running Hot Chowder. It does such amazing things when mixed with other glazes. 

What’s one technique you’re working on right now?
Just trying to improve the basics. Throwing way taller, thinner, with more even walls. 

What does your ideal studio session look like?
I love to get to the studio first thing in the morning with my coffee, put in my earbuds and listen to a podcast and throw. It is so calming. My mind just goes blank and everything just fades to the background.

What would you tell someone who’s thinking of joining or has just joined? 
Do it!! It may seem intimidating, but this is such a welcoming, warm space. Everyone is so helpful and encouraging. You will be amazed at how quickly you learn and grow.

What part of the making process is most meditative for you?
Throwing on the wheel gets me out of my head and makes me slow down. It is just me and the clay and the slow process of trying to create something beautiful.

How has Maek Friends impacted your creative life? 
My job is very hands on creative, but I’m always creating someone elses concepts. Pottery is all me. I can do whatever design, shape, color I choose. I get to express my vision.

What’s something a fellow member has taught you? 
Too many to name. Every day in the studio I hear or see something that opens my eyes to a new way of creating.
