Just over a week ago… she auditioned for the lead, got a callback and chemistry/mix and match, and was offered the role of the badass best friend (my favorite character!). Ultimately, she had to turn it down due to scheduling — but wow, what a ride.

Directing actors is my specialty. 🤓🥹

Grateful for the reminder from the Universe that I do have the skills — and to just keep going. 💫

🎭 A parent just called me today.
Her kid was “scouted” at the mall.
Now they’re being told to drive to LA for an “open call audition.”

I’ve seen this story too many times—families spending thousands for fake exposure, hotel conferences, or overpriced packages… all while chasing their child’s dream.

Let me be clear:
🚫 Real casting directors don’t scout in malls.
🚫 You don’t need to pay $5,000 to be seen.
🚫 These “open calls” are often sales pitches in disguise.

Made a little trip to LA yesterday for a screening of Elio ✨
Pixar brings me in now and then to work with their talented young performers, and while I was only a small part of this one, I’m always honored to support actors stepping into their voice, timing, and truth on screen. 🎬

Taught in person yesterday in Hollywood as a guest director and connected with a lovely group of actors. (Thank you .chaya!)

It’s always an honor to witness artists dive into the work. After the last few years directing (Love & Karma and my upcoming series Maid to Shine), I’m open to teaching again—with a sharper eye, a stronger backbone, and a much deeper understanding of both the beauty and the BS behind the scenes.

Directing opened my eyes to so much more than just “action” and “cut.” I’ve seen the real behind-the-scenes: the subterfuge, the politics, the quiet power plays, the unspoken rules of Hollywood—and the actors who still manage to shine through it all. It’s made me a better coach, and a fiercer advocate for artists who want to do good work and survive the system.

Key takeaways for actors from this session:
• Don’t “pop out” and call “scene” at the end—stay in character until you hear “cut”.
• Be fully alive in each moment, listen.
• Specific choices are strong choices. God (or the devil) is in the details.
• Find the arc—it keeps your scene dynamic.

I did a thing…

In 2019, I won an Honorable Mention at Outfest Fusion for my short poem “Ultra Feminist” that launched me into my filmmaking endeavors and gave me the initial confidence that I had something worthy to say.

I made it into an indie electro-pop version with the help of beatmaker Augusto Omar Carrillo and the music production help of Rasec Marc.

I think I’ll be using it in the soundtrack or ending credits of my upcoming doc “Into the Mother Land” - but here is the distrokid teaser link before the upcoming Spotify release. 🤓

Cuz I was on this week!

But even though it was a small part in their world, I am so incredibly grateful to just watch how much fun they have on set and be witness to the brilliant takes after takes of comedy greats! Truly humbled and in awe to have shared the stage, even if just for a fleeting moment, with such an incredible cast. Shaking Chuck Lorre’s hand and witnessing the magic unfold in front of a live audience was everything and more. 🌟 Big love and thanks to all involved.

Here’s to not blinking and missing out on your own life’s episodes! 🤣

Y’all, the excitement is real!

I started working with Pixar when they discovered 4 out of 5 of the loop group kids were my students… Each one booked from different agencies - talk about a juggernaut moment!

Feeling incredibly blessed to be a tiny piece of the Pixar puzzle. From guiding bright young stars to sharing thoughts with Oscar-winning directors and producers…, this journey’s been nothing short of a dream.
