Alive! is the fourth album overall, and the first live album, by American hard rock band Kiss, released on September 10, 1975. It is considered to be their breakthrough, and a landmark for live albums. The double-album contains live versions of selected tracks from their first three studio albums, Kiss, Hotter Than Hell and Dressed to Kill. It was recorded at concerts in Detroit, Michigan; Cleveland, Ohio; Wildwood, New Jersey; and Davenport, Iowa on May 16, June 21, July 20 and 23, 1975.

The album's title was an homage to the 1972 live album Slade Alive! by the English rock group Slade, a band that heavily influenced Kiss.

Ice Nine Kills and Every Trick in the Book. I could listen to this album over and over again....oh wait I do! This album is simply awesome, but then again pretty much everything they put out is simply amazing! There is literally a story behind every song as every song is based on a book! I love it, I love them, I love this album!

Every Trick in the Book is the fourth album by the American heavy metal band Ice Nine Kills, released on December 4, 2015, by Fearless Records. It is the band's first release through Fearless Records and their fourth overall. Each track on the album is based on a piece of literature. Some examples of the source material are: Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde ("Me, Myself & Hyde"), Dracula ("Bloodbath & Beyond"), The Exorcist ("Communion of the Cursed"), and Romeo & Juliet ("Star-Crossed Enemies"). The album peaked at number 122 on the US Billboard 200, selling over 7,300 albums in its first week. This is the last album the band released to feature Conor Sullivan on drums.

Happy Monday Vinyl Lovers!

Lets kick the week off with a double album of the day!

How about Erroll Garner with Closeup in Swing and Other Voices.

We played these two album yesterday for a nice jazzy kickback Sunday morning.

Fun fact - Erroll Garner was one of the first artists to successfully sue his label and win for releasing albums without his permission. Guess the label should have read the contract better lol!

Erroll Louis Garner (June 15, 1921 – January 2, 1977) was an American jazz pianist and composer known for his swing playing and ballads. His instrumental ballad "Misty", his best-known composition, has become a jazz standard. It was first recorded in 1956 with Mitch Miller and his orchestra, and played a prominent part in the 1971 motion picture Play Misty for Me.

Scott Yanow of Allmusic calls him "one of the most distinctive of all pianists" and a "brilliant virtuoso". Garner received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6363 Hollywood Boulevard. His live album Concert by the Sea first released in 1955, sold more than 1 million copies by 1958, and Yanow's opinion on the album is that it "made such a strong impression that Garner was considered immortal from then on."

Thursdays are always epic here at Dave's House of Vinyl so lets join The Black Parade and My Chemical Romance.

I am not Emo by any stretch of the imagination but this album hits on several levels. Seriously kicking around seeing them when they come to town next year.

The Black Parade is the third studio album by American rock band My Chemical Romance, first released on October 23, 2006, through Reprise Records. A concept album, it is centered on the story of a man suffering from terminal cancer known as "The Patient", as he nears the end of his life. It has predominantly been considered an emo, alternative rock, pop-punk, hard rock, and punk rock, and glam rock record. It was produced by the band alongside Rob Cavallo.

Work began on the album in early 2006, with the band being influenced by the success and expectations set by their previous studio album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (2004). Aiming to outdo that album in as much as they could, Gerard Way came up with the idea to make it a concept album. Recording for the album took place from April to August 2006, with most of the album being written and recorded while the band secluded themselves within the Paramour Mansion. Due to their seclusion from the outside world during the album's production, the band members, particularly bassist Mikey Way, faced mental health issues that hindered the production of the album and influenced the creation of several songs.

The Black Parade received generally favorable reviews from critics. The album was a commercial success, debuting at number two on both the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart. It has been certified as 4× platinum in the United States, 3× platinum in the United Kingdom, as well as gold in both Argentina and Chile. It was also given the Platinum Europe Award by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. The album was supported by four singles: "Welcome to the Black Parade", which was the band's first number-one single in the United Kingdom, "Famous Last Words", "I Don't Love You", and "Teenagers". In support of the album, My Chemical Romance embarked on the Black Parade World Tour from February 2007 to May 2008.

In the years since its release, The Black Parade has been revered by music journalists as one of, if not the most important album to the history of the emo music genre, as well as My Chemical Romance's defining work. The album's popularity ended the dominance of emo pop, and influenced the sound of future rappers, numerous metalcore bands, contemporary pop artists, and film soundtracks. It also left a significant impact on alternative culture and fashion. It was reissued as The Black Parade/Living with Ghosts in 2016, in celebration of the tenth anniversary of the album's release. In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked the album number 361 in its updated list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

Today in 1973, Black Sabbath released their fifth studio album, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.

Sabbath had a blast making Vol.4 in LA and returned to start the next album. But Iommi was burned out and suffering writer’s block. Only when the band relocated to Clearwell Castle in Gloucestershire – where they believed they saw ghosts – did Iommi rediscover his mojo. The castle’s creepy aura inspired the first song he wrote for the album: its title track, featuring not one but two of his greatest riffs.

And the finished album was even more adventurous than Vol.4. The mesmeric Spiral Architect utilized a string section, and Sabbra Cadabra – later covered by Metallica – had Rick Wakeman playing piano, for which he was paid in beer. “For me,” Iommi says, “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath was the pinnacle.”
