We’re taking our recovery support meetup into nature this month and connecting at Confluence Park on Thursday, August 20 at 7pm for a nature walk! ☁️🐛🌞🦋🍃

Recovery meetups are a safe space for people to gather in support of recovery from addiction. Whether you are in active recovery or in search of recovery from alcohol or drugs, we’re here to hold space for you.

A steel border wall over 150 miles long is slated to begin construction as early as June 2026 through Big Bend National Park + Big Bend Ranch State Park, complete with cameras, detection technology and lighting.

Militarized border infrastructure in Big Bend would fragment one of North America’s most biodiverse desert ecosystems and threaten the native species that call this region home. The wall will directly impact:

• 116 miles of Big Bend National Park + surrounding scenic areas
• access to land for local wildlife including mountain lions, Mexican black bears + other migratory species
• the $56.8 million local economy
• access to Big Bend National Park Hot Springs + numerous trails
• 20 miles of riverfront state park land
• access to river trips on Colorado Canyon
• the gorgeous, unlit night sky

To fast track border wall construction. the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has waived 28 laws. Regulations and laws meant to protect our ecosystem and history — the National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Water Act, the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act —are being bypassed.

Big Bend remains one of the last largely undeveloped, wild landscapes along the southern border. We must act now. We must protect Big Bend.

This week, ICE purchased a 639,595 square-foot warehouse on San Antonio’s East Side at 542 SE Loop 410 for $66.1M from Atlanta-based Oakmont Industrial Group.

With more than 900,000 Hispanic residents, our city reflects one of the largest Hispanic populations in Texas. We cannot have a detention center open in San Antonio.

Here are steps you can take to show your opposition —

Call District 28 Congressman Henry Cuellar and urge him to vote against DHS funding and oppose this detention center.
