Congrats to my friend Ambie Orr and her dog Kesil on finding a deer this morning. Was shot last night, hunter had to back out and get neighbor permission this morning. We have been working Kesil for just shy of two years, and she is turning into a wonderful, driven tracker!

How do we track an individual deer when the woods are full of scent from other deer ?
Using the amazing creation of their nose and specific training. We build a relationship and learn to watch and read their body language while tracking. We track the pheromones that a wounded deer puts off through the interdigital glands between their hooves. This scent is specific to that deer and is said to vary in intensity according to how hurt the deer is. They also put all the scents together with the hoof scent. Blood, organ matter, dander, even their breath gives us a trail to hopefully recover your deer.
