We launched our first cohort last fall, and the response blew us away. We couldn’t be more excited about what we’ve built for our New Workers!

Our first session is all about getting to know our students - what they’re dreaming about, what feels overwhelming, and what they most need support with in regards to their futures. We’ll introduce our new teaching team, share the semester roadmap, and make space for students to shape the program around their actual needs.

35 students applied - the largest group New Works has ever seen.

Of those 35 students, 18 have requested scholarships.

Thanks to your support at our Winter Gala and the launch of our new Amplify Accessibility Scholarship, plus our commitment to dedicating 20% of our operating budget to financial aid, we’ve been able to cover most of the need.

But we’re still $1,335 short to cover what our families need.

THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN

Your gift this week goes directly to scholarships through our Champions 4 Charity fundraiser:

$20 helps alleviate the pressure a bit
$50 makes the show possible
$100 is a life changer for these students

We have exactly one week to raise the remaining $1,335 and release these funds to families in need.

CAN’T DONATE RIGHT NOW?

You can still help:

Share this email with someone who believes in arts access
Repost our recent post on social media and tag us

Thank you for helping us continue to provide accessible theatre for students all over San Antonio and believe that theatre is for all! 🩵🪻

Our end of summer 2026 middle and high school musical is The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical!🔱💙⚡️

As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can’t control, a destiny he doesn’t want, and a mythology textbook’s worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus”s master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. He must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and come to terms with the father who abandoned him. Adapted from the best-selling book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and featuring a thrilling original rock score, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is an action-packed mythical adventure worthy of the gods.

Contant Warnings: Minor violence and mention of parental neglect.

New Works’ second annual 13+ summer play is She Kills Monster! ⚔️📓❤️

She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen tells the story of Agnes Evans as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, however, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture, She Kills Monsters offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.

Content Warnings: She Kills Monsters contains themes of grief, violence, homophobia and minor sexual content.

We at New Works are a safe space for all identities and don’t consider LGBTQ+ themes and characters advance content- this show is one that is focused on primarily female voices with multiple LGBTQ+ identifying characters.

New Works’ Summer 2026 13+ Musical- Jasper in Deadland! 🩵💀

Jasper is lost in the living world. When you’re failing classes, kicked off the swim team, and your family is on the skids, life can feel like it’s going to hell. Yet, in all the disappointment, Jasper has his best friend: Agnes. In one night of teenage passion, Jasper and Agnes confess their feelings and ruin a years-long friendship. In the morning Agnes is gone, telling Jasper to meet her at their cliff. When he arrives there’s no sign of his best friend, only a swirling vortex to another world in the water below. So-Jasper dives into Deadland! In this loose retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice rock musical about where to find meaning in every life; follow Jasper as he goes through Deadland to find what he lost.

Content Warnings: This show discusses life and death, has some sexual language, and brief mentions of drug use and parental neglect/abuse.
