French Polynesia has 118 islands! It is also divided into 5 different archipelago or group of islands. Each group of islands has their own dialects. This song is about the Austral Islands (Tuha’a pae) which is comprised of 5 islands. There is a mention of my great grand mother’s native tongue named “reo tūtae āuri”. If not learned by the younger generation, this language can unfortunately disappear, hence the importance of sharing it.
