The Angel Moroni statue found atop many temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints symbolizes the Restoration of the gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ's message to the world. Although not every temple features a Moroni statue, it has long been a recognizable feature of many temples throughout the Church. (churchofjesuschrist.org)

Moroni was the last prophet of the Book of Mormon and, as a resurrected being, was sent by God to deliver the gold plates to Joseph Smith and prepare the way for the Restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ. For this reason, he is often depicted holding a trumpet, symbolizing the fulfillment of the biblical prophecy that the gospel would be proclaimed to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

More important than the statue itself is what it represents. Every temple testifies that Jesus Christ lives, that His gospel has been restored, and that God continues to invite all His children to make sacred covenants with Him. The temple always points to the Savior, and Moroni symbolizes the restoration of the message that leads all people to Christ.

The sacrament is a sacred ordinance instituted by Jesus Christ on the night before His Crucifixion so His disciples would always remember Him. Each Sunday, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints partake of bread and water in remembrance of the Savior's body and blood, which He offered through His atoning sacrifice.

As we worthily partake of the sacrament, we renew the covenants we made with God at baptism. We witness that we are willing to take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ, always remember Him, and keep His commandments. In return, the Lord promises that we may always have His Spirit to be with us. The sacrament is also a time to examine ourselves, repent, and draw closer to the Savior.

The sacrament should be the most sacred part of our weekly worship. It is an opportunity to set aside the concerns of the world and focus our hearts on Jesus Christ, His love, His Atonement, and the blessings we receive because of Him. Each time we partake with a humble and repentant heart, our faith is strengthened, and we renew our commitment to follow the Savior.

Moroni was the last prophet of the Book of Mormon. He was the son of the prophet Mormon and lived during a time of great wickedness and destruction among the Nephites. After his father's death, the Lord entrusted him with the responsibility of completing the sacred record, preserving the gold plates, and hiding them in the Hill Cumorah until the Lord's appointed time.

Although he was left completely alone after the destruction of his people, Moroni remained faithful to the Lord. He wrote messages of hope, taught about faith, hope, and charity, explained the ordinances of the gospel, and left an invitation for every reader to ask God if the Book of Mormon is true. That invitation, found in Moroni 10:3–5, continues to lead millions of people to gain a testimony of Jesus Christ.

Centuries later, as a resurrected being, Moroni appeared to the young Joseph Smith to reveal the location of the gold plates and prepare him to translate the Book of Mormon by the gift and power of God. The gift of the Holy Ghost is one of the greatest gifts our Heavenly Father offers His children. After exercising faith in Jesus Christ, repenting, and being baptized, we receive this gift through the ordinance of confirmation by the laying on of hands by Melchizedek Priesthood holders. This gift gives us the right to enjoy the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost as we strive to keep our covenants and live worthily.

Although everyone can feel the influence of the Holy Ghost, the gift of the Holy Ghost is different. Those who receive it and remain faithful may enjoy His constant companionship. The Holy Ghost bears witness of the Father and the Son, reveals truth, warns us of danger, comforts us in times of sorrow, and helps us make righteous decisions. He also sanctifies us and helps us become more like Jesus Christ.

The Lord invites us to "receive the Holy Ghost." This means we must actively seek His influence each day through prayer, scripture study, obedience, and righteous living. As we learn to recognize His still, small voice, we receive personal revelation, peace, and strength to remain faithful on the covenant path.

The gold plates were the ancient sacred record from which Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon by the gift and power of God. They contained the testimonies and teachings of prophets who lived in the ancient Americas over many centuries. The prophet-historian Mormon compiled and abridged these records, and later his son Moroni hid them to preserve them until the Lord's appointed time.

In 1823, the angel Moroni appeared to Joseph Smith and told him about the plates. Four years later, Joseph was permitted to receive them and, under the Lord's direction, translated the record through divine means. After the translation was completed, the plates were returned to the angel Moroni. In addition to Joseph Smith, the Three Witnesses and the Eight Witnesses testified that they had seen the plates, strengthening the witness of their reality.

Baptism is the first ordinance of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the gateway to the covenant path. The Savior taught that baptism is required to enter the kingdom of God, and He set the perfect example by being baptized by immersion in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. As we follow His example, we show our desire to become His disciples.

When we are baptized by someone holding priesthood authority, we make a sacred covenant with God. We promise to take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ, serve Him, stand as His witnesses at all times, and keep His commandments. In return, our Heavenly Father promises forgiveness through repentance, the companionship of the Holy Ghost, and strength to endure faithfully to the end.

Baptism symbolizes a new beginning. As we are completely immersed in water, we represent the death of our old life of sin; as we come forth from the water, we symbolize a new life devoted to following Jesus Christ. After baptism, we receive confirmation and the gift of the Holy Ghost, who can guide, comfort, and strengthen us as we remain true to our covenants.

Repentance is a loving gift from our Heavenly Father made possible through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. It is not a punishment or a sign of failure; it is the path that allows us to change, receive forgiveness, and draw closer to the Savior. Through repentance, we leave our sins behind, and our hearts begin to change as we become more like Jesus Christ.

True repentance begins with faith in Jesus Christ. As we recognize our sins, feel sincere godly sorrow, confess when necessary, forsake our sins, and seek to make things right, we experience real spiritual change. Rather than being a single event, repentance is a lifelong process of turning our hearts toward God each day.

Because of the Savior's Atonement, no one is ever too far away to return. Jesus Christ extends His mercy to all who come unto Him with humility and a sincere desire to change. Every time we repent, we experience greater peace, hope, and joy as we feel God's love and forgiveness in our lives.

It does not replace the Bible; it complements and strengthens its testimony that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior of the world. It was written by ancient prophets who lived in the Americas and preserved by God's hand for our day.

The record was compiled by the prophet Mormon on gold plates and, centuries later, delivered by the angel Moroni to Joseph Smith. Through the gift and power of God, Joseph Smith translated the plates, making this sacred book available to the world. The crowning event of the Book of Mormon is the personal ministry of Jesus Christ among the people in the Americas after His Resurrection.

Faith in Jesus Christ is the first principle of the gospel and the foundation upon which we build our spiritual lives. Having faith in Him is far more than believing He exists; it means trusting Him, accepting that He is the Son of God, and acting according to His teachings. True faith leads us to follow Him, keep His commandments, and rely on His power in every aspect of our lives.

Faith grows as we hear and study God's word, pray sincerely, and act on what we learn. As we exercise faith, we receive strength to overcome trials, hope during difficult times, and peace from knowing that Jesus Christ always keeps His promises. He has the power to forgive our sins, heal our spiritual wounds, and lead us back to the presence of Heavenly Father.

Eternal life is the greatest gift God can give His children. It is more than living forever, because through the Resurrection everyone will receive immortality. Eternal life means living in the presence of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, becoming like Them, and enjoying an eternal family through the covenants of the gospel.

Our Heavenly Father prepared the plan of salvation so we could receive this gift. We enter the path to eternal life by exercising faith in Jesus Christ, repenting, being baptized, and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. We continue on that path by keeping our covenants, receiving temple ordinances, and enduring faithfully to the end. Eternal life cannot be earned by our own efforts alone; it is made possible only through the grace and Atonement of Jesus Christ.

The Lord desires every one of His children to receive this blessing. That is why He has given us the scriptures, living prophets, the priesthood, and temples to guide us along the covenant path. Every choice to follow Jesus Christ brings us closer to the destiny our Heavenly Father prepared for us before the foundation of the world.
